Scarlet - The Magazine That Turns Women On!
That's what it claims anyway
It is like a female version of FHM but grown up. Yes it does have a naked model spread in each issue. Yes it does talk about sex the whole way through. But it's not immature.
It investigates various different aspects of sexualities. Their reporters have been to fetish clubs, visited swingers clubs, had marble models of their (internal) intimate bits made and many many more things. They are always written in a non-judgemental, open minded way, which prompts the reader to be the same.
The mag usually has an article included that looks at relationship aspects a completely different way to others. For example, this months (Aug 09) gives a list of unlikely places to pull!
They cover some hot topics that others may chose to ignore, like the topic of frenemys (people who make out their your friend, but constantly put you down) and articles championing women in their own rights - like strong women from history, and strong influential women from now.
And of course, theres the magazine within the magazine. The front cover advertises "Free Hot Mag Inside!" This refers to Cliterature - a magazine of saucy stories, and saucy illustrations. This is the icing on the cake. And the cherry! There is one story (the first) which flows from mag to mag, but can be read on it's on. The end of this Cliterature Mag includes a small interview with the illustrator.
The only thing that grates with this mag, is the adverts. Half the mag seems to include an advert for some sex-linked company. Great if you're after inspiration to spice up your sex life, but a bit annoying for those that have browsed them all already! Most will give Scarlet readers a discount tho
I must mention the price. £3.30 for each monthly issue. But if you think you effectively get two magzines for that price, it's not so bad. Of course, you can't buy the mags seperately.....
All in all, this is an interesting magazine for open-minded women, and men
Summary: Buy for a change, but you may find it a regular purchase! Be warned!
