Advantages: glossy, great pictures and lots of info,
Disadvantages: not that easy to find in the shops
This is a magazine with a great glossy cover. The pics on the cover are sometimes worth the price of the mag themselves. The only problem I've found with this mag is that you will struggle to find it unless you subscribe, or ask your newsagent to get it for you. It tries to cover a wide range of media, from movie to TV to games, books and videos and does a fair job of it too. I wish they had a few more books in their review, but so far they haven't lead me astray and I've found some nice new titles through them. It also covers the oldies as well as the newcomers in movies as well as books, something which not many other mags do well. The articles are entertaining and interesting but the only failing is that their "Spoiler"section, with summaries of the plots in upcoming episodes of your favourite Sci-fi serial is sometimes out of date ! This is an add on: If you subscribe to this magazine, you might find (as I did) that some of the issues that you might have expected landing on your doorstep you have to go out and buy for yourself instead. This is apparently because SFX publish several special editions throughout the year (varying in number depending on how many things there are to do special edition about) and these specials are not included in the price of the subscription. So you will either have to pay the price, plus a pound for postage, or try and find it in the shops (no easy task). When I first found out, I was really not impressed with them for not making that clear in the subscription info. But I like the mag so much that I forgave them. I would definitely recommend this mag to those who like Sci-fi
