Advantages: Good for 9-12 year olds!

Disadvantages: Says it's a teen mag when it's not!

After been a major fan of shout and not read it for a couple of years , I decided to see if I'd missed much! It was their new make over which grabbed my attention! I thought it looked quite childish but thought i'd buy it anyway.

Although this magazine is aimed at 9-14 year olds , i would not reccommend a 14 year old to read it as it's rather childish. For example it covers about 4 pages just comparing celebs as to how alike they are.
Each month a celeb is placed on the cover , then their interview is shown in the magazine.

There are adverts in the magazine aimed at teenagers for example : Always , Tampax and new tv shows.
It has gossip pages about stars that teenagers would like such as paris hilton , scarlett johanson and Jessica Alba.
Shout lets it's readers take part in the magazine by printing their embarrassing moments and real life stories.I think that the real life stories are a scary read for nine year olds as they may be too mature for them to handle.

Shout contains a few fashion pages using teenage models. The models in the magazine look normal and not too skinny.

Shout reveals all the latest storylines coming up in popular soaps such as coranation street , eastenders , hollyoaks and emmerdale.
Shout is packed full of 'flow charts' , such as 'can you keep a secret' and 'which movie star are you most like!
In it's Beauty and fashion section it features products for a chep price. such as bracelets and eyeshadow.

Shout has horoscopes! one thing i don't like about their horoscopes is the fact that it only says one thing such as ' Look for love with the letter L' and it's for the whole month! I also don't think the horoscopes are accurate , but 10 year olds might find them exciting!

Shout used to feature a page full of competitions (usually about 8 different prizes were up for grabs) but now it only seems as though they only feature one competition per month.I prefered when there were lots of prizes on offer because it gave you more chances of winning a prize.
Shout has a feature , where they relate celebs with the readers such as 'These celebs havn't always had it so easy! '.
In it's beauty section it features a body part such as 'summer nails' and tells you how to make your nails look good!

Shout also has a "fun" section where they print 'funny facts' or something like that!

Shot also features someones real life story such as 'My boyfriend's and emo' and then they have a page where they explain what an emo for example is.This is important because it teaches kids that it can upset others my labelling them as emos , goths , chavs ect.

Shout also has a page where it shows different types of for example shoes , such as trainers , sandles and wellies , you then have to pick which shoe you like the most and then it will tell you "what do your shoes say about you"

It also features a photo of a celebrity and tells you how you can copy their style and where to buy the exact or similar clothes , shoes and accessories from at really affordable prices which is good because otherwise people who cannot afford designer clothes may get upset if they couldn't afford their favourite celebrity's outfit , but shout makes this possible.
shout has a feature where they show celebs 'looking hot'(paris hilton is a regular in theis section ) and they also feature a page where celebs 'have lost the plot'.

Shout also features quizzes about beauty , television , films , music , celebrities , and problems.

The problem pages are a good idea because if someone has a problem but are too shy to talk to someone then they can write to the magazine. This also helps others if they see a similar problem , then they can read the advice. One thing I like about this magazine is the fact that unlike other magazines , it replies to all problems even the ones they don't print in the magazine.

Shout also features on their problem pages websites and helplines such as childline and Anti Bullying campaign , which is good , because it informs young people that there are people out there who are trained to deal with problems , and are confidential.

Shout has a page called 'Back chat - it's all about you! ' where readers letters are printed. One thing I don't like about this page is that it only prints about 2 or 3 readers' letters - the rest of it is how to get it touch with the magazine and a fact such as 'Did you know that every polar bear is a capricorn, as they are all born between late December and early January!
There is a section in shout magazine which is 'just zip it' where it features silly sayings celebs have said.

The last page talks about the next issue and when it's out in the shops to buy.It also says what the free gift is.Their slogan for not buying shout is 'Get Shout or miss out' which I think is tempting!
Shout's free gifts are usually make up - eyeshafdow or 'sunburst bronzer'
Within the back cover it has features you can buy for your mobile such as wallpapers , ring tones , games , animations , voicetones and videos , at a expensive price.

For it's content I think Shout is rather exensive at £2.10.There are approx. 100 pages per shout mag.It doesn't take that long to read. You can buy shout from most newsagents and supermarkets.

I think shout is a great magazine for 9-12 year olds but not above that age because it may appear as simple for teenagers! I give shout 9/10!
Hope this review helps!

Summary: A good magazine for young girls!

I didn't realise it was pitched at the 9-14 year old market - for some reason I thought it was for older kids. I have asked my 12 year old daughter if she wanted it but she refused - she prefers Mizz and Bliss.

Aww I loved Shout when I was growing up, and they always gave away make-up and stuff :) Good Review! x
