Advantages: Recycle me I'm 80p
Disadvantages: I could have spent that 80p on.....
It's quite amazing how many of this type of magazine there are today. Unless I'm mistaken this rash began with Heat a few years ago and now there are a mind biggling array of celeb magazines all reporting the same 'news' and trying desperately to have a new angle on each story.
I bought 'Star' on a whim as I wanted to flick through something trashy, and I got trash in spades! Boasting on the cover that you 'get two mags for 80p' and 'We're cheaper than Heat.. why pay more for less?' Why not indeed?
Sadly cheap is the word. It is sub Heat nonsense, but what would you expect, the National Geographic? Jordan, Kerry, Colleen, so and so from Big Brother, Posh, Amy, Fearne.... the usual 'sensational exclusives' that you see in all the other magazines of the type. No 'True life' stories as with some other celeb type mags, this is pure celebrities from A - ZZZZZZ! (Mostly the latter.)
There is some respite from papped celebrities blinking (drunken night out shock!), fashion, make up, film reviews, book reviews (a third of a page, a few sentances about four books) music reviews and the weeks TV listings. Fair enough for 80p actually. Lacks Heat's irreverance and wit by an absolute mile, Heat at least has a wry and sarky edge that can raise a smile.
Cheaper than Heat? I'd say that's pretty true on all levels!
Not a great review for not a great magazine.
Summary: Trashy trash

- 31/07/09 The only time I read mags like this is when I'm sat in the Dentists waiting room, :-) |
