Advantages: Layout, photos, group tests

Disadvantages: Depth of reviews, length

I hate to admit it but I'm a technology freak. I love all of the gadgets and gizmos that are dreamed up by the Japanese. And so, I have a special place in my heart for Stuff magazine.

For those who have never read Stuff, here's a brief run down. Its a gadget/technology/gear magazine with the latest news, reviews, and information on anything in the least bit 'gadgety'. I will write about each bit of the magazine seperately:

------
Tests
------
Stuff tests products under different titles each month - for example, 'sub-£200 PDAs', or 'Entertainment and Info in your car'. I like this format because it means that not all tests are about the same product. For example, a test about 'MP3' contains many products with MP3 such a phones, MP3 players, laptops and Pocket PCs. This makes the tests diverse.

----------
Hot Stuff
----------
This section shows new products which may be of interest. Although most are widely over the top products(£47,000 Jaguar S-Type R anyone?), they still make for an interesting read. Some products are shown 'in detail' - they are broken down and explained, although not tested.

--------------
The Knowledge
--------------
This is a section at the back of the magazine devoted to recording the results of group tests and reviews in tables. All of the products are under chategories (e.g. 'digital cameras', 'film cameras', 'video cameras'), and they are listed as to their rating. Although this is not the largest resource for goods (try dooyoo!), it is useful none the least. I think that it is a good idea which is not carried off particularly well (i.e. not enough products), although it is clear at least.

------------
Other Stuff
------------
There are some things I haven't yet mentioned. Firstly, I really like the layout of Stuff - I think that it is really easy to read. I also think that t
he photography is truly excellent, and this complements the layout very well, producing a very clean looking magazine.

However, there are some bad points. The length is one; it is a little short (can be read in about 2 hours), and the reviews are a little lacking in depth. There is also a fair amount amount of advertising, especially near the back, although all magazines seem to have loads now. It a shame there isn't more content.

Stuff is an enjoyable enough read, but don't buy it if you want really in depth reviews on technology. Try dooyoo instead :-)
