I cannot believe the cost of advertising your local business in the Surrey Ad. Why does it have to be so expensive. Surely the local paper should be looking to assist local business in promoting thier business instead of just ripping them off.

20 minutes ago my copy of the Surrey Advertiser dropped on to my doormat. We all know generally what is said in these papers, and seen as I receive about 6 a week I can protest that there isn't much difference between any two of them. Nearly as bad in quality as your average copy of The SUN each village, town, county, province, local authority and seemingly household has it's own paper solely to bring local news to the masses. This weeks Surrey Advertiser breaks down as follows: Pages(including supplements); 124 Pages devoted entirely to Property advertising; 64 Pages with news on them; 14 Pages filled with sports reports from irrelevant teams with a total of 3 supporters; 8 Pages filled with cheap and easy to make crosswords which will be filled in by no one other than the person who has to solve it to put the answer in next weeks paper; 3 (including one full page crossword complete with pictures!!) The entire rest of the paper is filled with adverts for Mrs. Floozies tea shop where they sell the best pasties in all of Little Snorting.(please excuse me while I leap for joy having finally found what I've been searching for all of my life.) This weeks headline: 86 year old denied pension in slight mix-up at post office. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Shock Horror! Terrifying screams and general panic. Sorry but my penchant for the melodramatic keeps kicking in. That headline failed to inspire me to read, and also failed to inspire my cat to rip the paper up because it rolled over in laughter. The problem with any newspaper in England is that not enough happens at local level to support such a wealth of regional papers. If every person in England receives between 5 and 6 of these a week (as I do) there must be several hundred if not a thousand different regional newspapers. Most of the run exclusively by being half filled with property supplements as the
Surrey Advertiser is. So don’t bother reading them just chuck them away.
