Advantages: Variable
Disadvantages: Too many adverts
Take a break is a brilliant magazine for everyone regardless of age and sex. It is jam packed full of all different things from fiction, to real life, to love rats, to facts and figures.
I would say that age range of the reader could be 14+, although i am sure that some of the content wouldnt be suitable for such a young age (pictures of surgery, horror stories about murders - nothing goes amiss!). I remember reading my mums copy from when i was about 12 - yes this magazine has been knocking around for all that time!
We'll start off with the front cover. As with most magazines, this is very bright and eye catching with bold story titles in yellow, white and black to entice you into purchasing.
The magazine includes the following:
Puzzles: throughout the magazine, there are little puzzles of all different natures from difficult to easy, to suit everyone. You can apply for competitions upon completing these puzzles via text or post.
Photos: Readers can send photos in - funny, serious, cute... etc...
Real Life stories: As mentioned earlier, this magazine does not mess around when it comes to its variation of real life stories !!! My personal favorites are the love rats sections and women being ripped off by Turkish toyboy lovers. But, there are also stories of murder, illnesses, success stories, the lot.
The Brainwaves Roadshow: This is where readers can share their top tips. For me, this is more of a comedy page. Who can take a letter serious when it says "If you are bored whilst washing your plates, give them names and make them talk to each other" - i genuingly thought i was seeing things when i read that. Unbelieveable.
Health: There are many health facts of recent medical research. There is always a different story each week on a true life medical problem. There is also a part where you can write in to "Dr Knott" for health advice.
Recipies: This is a 2 page spread of various different recipies
Beauty: Readers send letters in to TAB for beauty advice and to tip off other readers with their own advice.
Fashion: This usually consists of a couple of pages of fashion.
Travel: Each week there is a double page spread on a travel destination.
Stars/ Horoscopes
Problem pages: Rather than the usual advice that would come from an Agony Aunt, the Agony Aunt, Katie, has a database with different readers that give advice to them that have been on the same situation.
Food: Food is tested from different shops to see where the best place is to buy the featured product of the week
Fiction: There is always a fiction story of no paticular genre featured.
Letters page: Readers write in with letters of any nature
This magazine usually features approx 76 pages and costs 78p ( a penny or so a page! This is sold every week on a Thursday. It is a little disappointing that half of the magazine is covered in advertisements though. There is one on nearly every other page!
Summary: Can be read by anyone
