Disadvantages: ...but when you read it, you can feel yourself getting annoyed.
First of all the columnists. I find it massively disheartening that the mail has someone like Melanie Phillips writing for it. Sometimes I wonder if she dislikes her own gender. She certainly seems to have a rather backward attitude to feminism.
Ms Phillips seems to want to live in a fictional bygone world where everyone can have a 2.4 children family, and the mothers stay with men no matter how obnoxious they are.
As for her attitude to gay rights...let's just say Peter Tatchell isn't going to have her on speed dial.
They also have Jan Moir on their columns, she who jumped off the precipice over the recent death of a gay popstar. Homophobia is never nice, but from someone who writes for a newspaper, it's positively repellent. The fact that she is still with the paper tells you all you need to know.
The Daily Mail pretends to be a serious paper, but one flick through reveals that it is all but a redtop in sheeps clothing. They do love a bit of salacious jounalism in this paper, as long as they can sit in moral judgement of it, of course.
Summary: A nasty, salacious little paper, with repellent columnists, and a horrible agenda.
