The English Garden is a monthly gardening magazine billed for 'everyone who loves gardens'. It is a very plush, glossy publication and certainly aiming for the 'up-market' set, a give away is the advertisements it carries for some very expensive looking items. At £2.95 it an expensive magazine for what it contains especially when compared to other titles of a similar price. Whilst the gardens are beautiful to look at it is very hard to relate them to most people's everyday plot. Most of the gardens featured are very well manicured, multi-acres plots attached to beautiful houses straight off a chocolate box or highly stylish town house gardens. This magazine is more for those who enjoy visiting country house open gardens or who maintain such large, intricate gardens themselves. The plant features are in-depth with a bias to being written in a very botanical manner and would be of interest to an experienced gardener who already has knowledge of plantsmanship. This magazine has a very classical, some may say old-fashioned, approach to gardening aimed at a specialist market. If you enjoy a more formal approach to gardening and horticulture you would enjoy this magazine but if you have a more informal, contemporary approach to gardening I don't think you'll find other gardening magazines on the market are more approriate to your needs.
