Advantages: very good
Disadvantages: none
I, have been buying the Daily Mirror on a daily basis for nearly two years now. Ok, it doesn't have the quality of news of the tabloids, nor does it have detailed analysis of political event. But, for a quick read, it's a brilliant newspaper. It covers most of the top stories, and has an excellent sport section. They can also be very serious at times, with campaigns against organizations, and most of the times they get their readers involved, print the story on the front page, and the rest of the pages, create some hype, and bingo they over-turn decisions. For 32p, that's what it costs most of the times, it has a good spread of sections. On Saturday, you get the 'Look' magazine, which is a comprehensive t.v.guide to the week's tv listing, including radio and satellite. Which is not bad at all, considering the fact it is free and just as good as other T.V listing magazines. On Tuesday, there's the 'M' magazine, which is a good read, again free. So, you do get your money's worth. In, the newspaper, they have a Money section, which is handy for us poor students, as it has good tips on the best banks, interest rate charges, and your general financial situations. It also has a real good horoscope, I often look at these, and I am so surprised how often they are right. I, know people can attach what they want them to say, but they are really good. So, many times they have been spot on. It always has a scandalous story, which I suppose distinguishes it from a broadsheet, at the moment it has the low down on the Big Brother champion Craig, which is good. The stories often produce good insights. But, if I was to be honest they are not the newspapers strongest points. My best journalist and columnist has to be the brilliant Brian Reade, what a brilliant journalist. He writes sport columns or political. His columns always seem to have a poetic tone to them. He seems to write in a more philosophical wa
y to other journalist, looking from the top, rather than from the bottom. His style is excellent. If every journalist was like him, the paper would be good. My only problem with the Mirror, is like every newspaper they hype sports players, politicians, showbiz stars, only to knock them down. It, often does seems as if they hate success. Which is a shame. It will be interesting to see of they back Kevin Keegan, they were eager for him to get the job. They won't stand by him. Newspapers never show loyalty. But, overall a good newspaper, to read on the bus and to stay on tune with news, and sport.
