The ‘Morning Star’ is a political newspaper which has been in existence in Britain for decades. Launching and maintaining a national newspaper in this country is a process so costly and fraught with difficulty that even those with massive budgets have not always managed it. ‘Today’ is an example of a newspaper which had all the might of a press empire behind it and which still failed. ‘Look’ was a daily tabloid which the Conservative Party attempted to launch shortly before the 1997 general election after ‘The Sun’ had abandoned them — it is doubtful whether many have even heard of this, since it never even got off ... First of all let me get one thing straight - I am a Socialist. However to present the Morning Star as some sort of daily paper of the left is deeply misguided. First of all, the Morning Star's party, the Communist Party of Britain (CPB) is based on a program part written by Stalin in the 1950's - British Road to Socialism. It also, more importantly, covers news and events that get little or no coverage in other papers, such as union disputes and local-government difficulties. These are issues that directly effect the people of Britain. It's got sport, TV, features, the lot... Actually finding the paper can be a little tricky. But never fear, orders can be easily placed with newspapers ... Read the complete review

Few may of heard of it, and even fewer buy it nowadays, outside of London council coffeeshops, but there is another national daily news paper among the big nine. The Morning star, a communist socialist daily published since 1930 exists largely through reader contributions, and the odd car boot sale, and its site is as low tech as you expect (web site that is). However. it is still more entertaining than the daily star. If your a budding communist, then this may well be the paper for you, check out their web-site, www.poptel.org.uk/morning-star ...
