When I first got my little baby online I was eager to start surfing the web and find all kinds of Information but it was soon noticeable that I wasn't going to find the types of site I needed without searching for a while and being the lazy git I am I decided to get a net-related magazine instead, this is where The Net came into my life. Now then my time-honoured plan of grabbing whatever magazine is from Future Publishing failed miserably here, the beggars haven't got one out (well not in my area anyway) so I had to actually do some work for once and indulge in another Great British tradition - standing at the magazine rack of WH Smiths reading through magazines you have no intention of buying, I flicked through quite a few but they all seemed to be on the 'techie' side (don't get me wrong I can get down and technical when I want to, but I just rarely want to) so I was struggling to find anything that matched my needs, but then sat in the corner was a copy of 'The Net' with a full-sized picture of Courtney Cox on it with the storyline 'E-Mail the Stars!', once I opened the magazine I started to realise that maybe just maybe this was the magazine I was looking for. Not only did I find it to my liking but I indulged in the rarely seen past-time of actually buying the magazine, once I got it home I sat with it on my lap looking through some of the sites they were reviewing and came across a perfect site for my surfing needs - a fan site for the eighties kids cartoon 'The mysterious cities of gold' now I still remember rushing home from school/rushing out of bed to watch this program so obviously I went straight to the site and wasn't disappointed, It was exactly how the magazine had described it and even with gaming magazines you rarely find the reviews match your own thoughts but this time it did, since then I've found some little gems of sites (mainly fan sites but some other great little places i
.e. nostradamus society of america)all thanks to The Net and am now a subscriber who eagerly awaits the flapping of the letter-box each month that indicates the magazine has arrived. What you get for your £2.50 is a mix of techie bits such as how to configure your Outlook Express account, how to read newsgroups and various tips each month a ton of reviews when they say 1000s of sites reviewed each month they mean it! and on top of this a couple of columns that are written by people who are obviously in the know when it comes to all things web-based giving their views on anything from Spam to the now infamous I Love You virus, all of these articles have been well written and are definitely written with the readers views in mind rather than trying to reach a deadline and churn out any old tosh. So thanks go to The Net you've made a professional skiver extremely happy, heck who needs search engines, I've got The Net.
