Advantages: get a free demo disc and the magazine is well written
Disadvantages: not enoguh games now because of playstation 2
Since I got my Playstation in the Christmas of 1998, I have been buying the Official UK Playstation Magazine (OPM). I actually brought my first issue in February 1999, which was issue number 42. It came with a demo disc packed with 22 playable demos. About 12 of them were fore net yaroze, which I do not have, a clue what it is but they were still good games. Some of them were actual full games but they were like the old retro games really, however they were still fun to play. Every month after that it came with 1 or 2 net yaroze games but in the summer it stopped putting them on the demo disc and I don’t know why. Since then, I have collected every issue without subscribing (yes I am stupid). Before Christmas, you would get about 160 pages and about 5 playable demos. However, in the last issue I brought (which is the march issue) it only has 130 pages and 1 playable demo. The reason for this is that because of Playstation 2 only a few more Playstation games are being released, so there is not much to put on the demo discs or in the magazine. I’ll tell you about the sections of OPM so you can learn more about what’s inside the issues. *Whenever I refer to this month, I mean the month of March 2001. THE SECTIONS OF THE MAGAZINE ---------------------------------------------- --- Blue Print – This section of OPM contains some of the cool games in production to give you a preview of what is going on with the developers. In this months section they have: the dukes of hazard 2, Batman: Gotham City racer and Power diggerz. At the end of the section, they give you a round up of same of the other games in development. They do this so if you see one you like you can save your money up. Previews – This part of OPM has the previews of finished games, which will be out in the next month or two. This month they only have 3 which is not surprising. They give detailed descriptions of th
e games and they have a little part called opinions on the game that they are previewing which gives the good and bad points of the games. Features – Every month the give detailed looks at certain games. This month they have an in-depth look to the game that started out as a cult horror film and finished as a resident evil style zombie carve up. Its Evil dead: Hail to the king. Reviews – Here is where OPM reviews the most recent games, which have hit the shelves in the stores. There are 22 this month but half of them are rubbish and next month there will be less. They give separate marks out of 10 for graphics, game play, and lifespan. They write bits about each and then the overall mark is an average of those three marks and is out of 10. On the CD – This section gives you the controls of the demo games on the free CD and they tell you a bit about the game and the demo. They tell you weather it is playable or not or if it is a video. They also have a CD challenge at the bottom of the game, where you have to phone a number answer the question and you would be in with a chance of winning that computer game. Top Secret – This is a hints and tips section, they give major solutions to one or two games and then cheats for several others. It is a very good section if you need help on games. They also have the Power Line phone number if you are in desperate need of help on your games. Feedback – This is were you send in your letters and have your say on games and the magazine. They answer your questions very well giving you lots of useful information. A-Z of games – This is where they have all the Playstation games ever all in one section. They give you the score out of ten for it and what magazine it appeared in e.g. issue 46. They also write a few sentences about each game. Loading – This section has all the top Playstation news. It gives you news about Playstation ga
mes, things like the tomb raider movie or just about the actual console. Overall, I love this magazine it is great for news, reviews, previews and everything else to do with Playstation. It is a shame that in the summer this will probably be no more. Because of the Playstation 2 there are no games, which will be made for Playstation after this year so why would OPM need to continue? I don’t really recommend this magazine because of the demo discs only having 1 or 2 games and it costing so much for useless information. I am going to give up on the magazine soon. I would give it full marks but because of its content now I won’t. Hope this helps you. :O)
