Advantages: Easy to understand, detailed advice

Disadvantages: Not freely available

Good parenting magazines are hard to find. They tend to be either really patronising or simply scare you into thinking that you must be raising your child the wrong way and that they'll grow up to be disfunctional. The Parents' Guide somehow avoids all this - it has in depth articles that offer constructive 'non-panicky' advice and try to see the issues from all angles. For example, I read an article in there about Dyslexia and although my child isn't dyslexic, the article was both interesting and really refreshing. There was also everything a parent would ever want to know about the condition - the first signs, the theories behind it and it steered clear of all that 'all the famous people who were dyslexic' stuff that you usually see! I've just discovered this magazine and I've only been able to find it in Martin's newsagents as I believe it's mainly available by subscription. But I would recommend it to any parent (it caters for children up to twelve), just for the chance to find out so much more about the apple of your eye.
