I am a keen Metal Detectorist and there is nothing more enjoyable than reading about what others are finding in the fields and beaches of England. Obviously this can be done online on the number of websites that have cropped up. However at one time there was only one way of doing that and that was by buying a monthly Metal Detecting Magazine. In the UK there are two. The Searcher and Treasure Hunting. Both are fantastic magazines and help the hobby a lot.

The review I'm going to do is on The Searcher. I've been buying this magazine for about 20 years now. I think it was established about 1989. It is a glossy magazine and is available on subscription or on the shelves at good book shops such as WHSmith. Over the years the magazine has changed a lot. At the moment the features include (amongst others)

Identification and Valuation: A great feature for the less experienced metal detectorist, identifying their finds and giving a rough valuation.


Readers Letters: Moans and groans but also praise for rally organisers etc.

Club Activity: An update of the club scene involving days out, talks etc

Saleroom Scene: What prices are some coins getting sold for at auction

Classifieds: Have you something metal detecting related to sell. Try giving the classifieds section a go. You will be reaching a wide metal detecting audience.

There are also stories from other Metal Detectorists of their days out and finds. I love reading these. Typical stories include detectorists who had been detecting for 8 hours on a hot days with very little reward and then pops up a gold ring. The stories always include images and it really is mouth watering stuff. It always makes you want to get your metal detector ou and jump into the car.

I would highly recommend this magazine to anybody who loves the hobby of metal detecting. I know there is also Treasure Hunting but if we don't support both, it maybe that one day we lose one. We don't want this. What would you do whilst sitting in the car, waiting for the rain to go off on your next days detecting day? or sunbathing on the beach on your hols.
