Sport First [Background: If you are the type of person that somehow feels that the sports sections of other national newspapers don't quite provide you with the depth of information that you require then Sport First is most definitely for you!] I am a recent convert to Sport First, having been disappointed with the coverage in most other newspapers. I am talking in particular here about the Sunday editions. Sport First is actually issued twice weekly, on a Sunday and also on a Wednesday. Sport First is the best paper that a Sports enthusiast can buy. Actually, it's the ONLY one. We are meant to be a nation of sports fans, but we cannot support a daily sports paper or weekly sports magazine. In the US they have the excellent Sports Illustrated and the Sporting Times. France have l'Equipe (with a brilliant sports magazine included each weekend) and Italy have the 'Gazetta della Sport'. We have the racing papers and Sports First each weekend! Do not read this newspaper if you are a little bit interested in football, you need to eat, drink and sleep football to be interested in this paper. Sport first only costs £0.70 a paper which only comes out twice a week. It's ideal for those people like me who just buy a national newspaper just to read the back pages. Eighty per cent of the newspaper will be about football, the rest of the newspaper will consist of rugby,golf,horse racing,greyhound racing, cricket,grand prix and other events that take place that week. I started buying this paper when it was 50p, I still buy it now it costs 70p. Although the title suggests it is sport first, the main emphasis is on Football. The Premiership being the main focus. For those that like Football statistics this paper is a dream. The strength of this publication is the breadth of coverage - every Saturday English league football game merits a report - and the attempt it makes to include information about English and Scottish clubs, including non-league teams. However, it is heavily football-orientated, and coverage of sports like cricket is sketchy. Also, the football stats are limited, inconsistent and occasionally inaccurate. The news stories are frequently very up-to-date and avoid the general tabloid hysteria.
