To buy or not to buy (The Stage)
Member Name: Trishajs
Advantages: You will be well informed on industry news Disadvantages: Not great for finding work The Stage - or as it is known The Stage and Television Today is one of the main trade newspapers for the industry. It has been around for over a century- so it must be getting something right. I went to Drama college for two years and every student bought it every week- to be honest I am not sure it was always for the content but as young students aiming to be in the industry -it felt good to be seen with it. It is what it says on the box- you will get all the up to date industry news and will often learn about new productions ahead of when you would learn in the mainstream media. You can find reviews of across country productions. On a sadder note you will be able to read the obituaries of entertainers and industry members and their stories can be very interesting. There is a vacancy section and yes sometimes you can find work from it but it isn't by any stretch of the imagination the place to find work-unless you are a cruise performer or cabaret artist. Every year it reviews pantomimes across the country and has an extensive review of The Royal Variety Performance. My recommendation is if you are interested in this world buy one copy and see what you think. But a word of warning- it isn't a gossip mag- if that's what you want - this isn't the reading choice for you. Summary: Theatre and TV Industry Mag |
