Advantages: not really

The Sun is Britain's most popular newspaper based on sales. It is a little known fact that every Transit van in Britain has at least one copy on the dashboard every day. With the Daily Star it is the last of the mass-circulation daily newspapers to still include a Page 3 girl, The Daily Mirror have stopped doing so some years ago. The Sun is also one the most profitable newspapers in Britain which results from its high revenue (sales x cover price) and low production costs (few journalists and certainly very few expensive overseas based journalists).

So in addition to the Page 3 girl what is The Sun actually like. Firstly it does carry some news but don't expect anything with any depth and also take into account that objective journalism has no place in The Sun when knee-jerk reaction and ill-informed opinion will suffice eg 'Jobs boost as Honda smashes euro lies' is typical. In this respect though The Sun can be seen to be acting as would the Telegraph or Mail in using a story to underline an established political or economic view.

The second most striking thing in The Sun is the enormous amount of coverage given to celebrities and in some cases people who one wouldn't usually expect to be considered a celebrity. An example I recall concerned a story about Mel B's sister on a night out. Hardly essential reading. Other articles give details on what is going to happen in the soaps over the coming weeks and such stories are treated as if they are part of the fabric of the news. Not as they are fictional events concerning fictional characters. But this is what The Sun is about. It is all very easy and digestible. Once read it would be difficult to remember very much of it.

If this sort of information is what you want the The Sun is for you. It also covers sport particularly football thoroughly but I found it quite annoying. The new 'Supergoals' pull-out is full of awful puns based on players names or part of their names and again concentrates on sensation and controversy from every game whether such controversy was there or not.
So no The Sun is not for me or should it be 'polydeuces ignites fury with shock blast on soaraway Sun horror'
