Advantages: Juicy gossip, sports coverage
Disadvantages: Possibility of inaccurate stories, bad grammar
I used to read The Sun.
However, on a day like any other, my English teacher asked the class if anybody read newspapers. I stuck my hand up. He asked me which paper I read, and I foolishly said "The Sun." He scoffed at this, and seemed to take great pleasure at belittling me in front of the whole class. I suppose this was my fault for being so naive.
The reason why he took the mickey, for those who don't know, is because The Sun is a tabloid newspaper.
After looking at other (quality) newspapers, I came to the conclusion that The Sun wasn't the best newspaper to read if I wanted to educate myself, but instead being a source of trashy (but none-the-less juicy) gossip about celebrities and shamed politicians. It hasn't got the world's best grammar, and over-use of adjectives, such as "stunning" are rife throughout the paper.
It also credits itself as being a "family newspaper." I don't really understand how a paper with a topless girl on the third page and a problem page (Dear Deirdre) all about sex qualifies as family friendly.
However, it's not the worst paper out there. It doesn't plunge into the sordid depths of say, The News of The World, where there's always some mucky kiss-and-tell about a Premiership footballer.
All in all, I'd say that The Sun shouldn't be taken too seriously, but it's still an ok read for sport or celebrity news.
Summary: A paper not to be taken too seriously.

- 29/06/09 the sun seems to excel with sports stories but as you say the majority of it is hit and miss. |

- 29/06/09 I find the way some Broadsheets refer to themselves as "quality" is quite arrogant. |
