The Sun newspaper has a daily circulation of around 3 million copies a day which makes it the most popular and read newspaper in the UK. It has the second highest circulation of any english language newspaper in the world.

I guess people like less detailed and maybe less factual news and stories which stir controversy and are more items of gossip than news. The Sun is a tabloid newspaper so you kind of know what to expect when you pick up a copy of this paper. A tabloid is by my knowledge a newspaper with pages about half the size of a standard (broadsheet) newspaper. A tabloid compared to a broadhseet also has shorter and more condensed articles and a large part of the newspaper is in picture form. In more recent times though the word tabloid has become associated with words like gossip, scandal and exclusive. In terms of the most scandalous and latest gossip, The Sun is usually the newspaper of choice for many.

If you want something to just flick through and read quickly without really having to concentrate properly and process any kind of real clever writing or insightful information then this is probably your best bet in terms of newspapers. There are a range of sections which cover some of the latest news headlines, lots on gossip and celebs and also a pretty good sports section. The sports section does sometimes have some good opinion but there is alot better around. Alot of the news is also not factual and is based alot on gossip and basically what will help the newspaper to sell so eye catching headlines and pictures are what is top of the agenda.

Compared to other newspapers The Sun is also relatively cheap. I think it is currrently just 20p which I guess attracts alot of people to buy it. It is something ok to buy just as long as you know what you are going to get. It is not a serious newspaper and there is alot reported that is not completely fact. Overall it does what it sets out to but not to everyones taste and liking. I did buy it from time to time but not so much now.You can just go on to the sun website to read most of what is in the paper and it is also kept update so you can get your daily dose of gossip and trash news!
