In my opinion calling ‘The Sun’ a newspaper is in direct contravention of the trade descriptions act. As far as news content is concerned this tabloid has the knack of carrying stories that owe their origin more to hearsay rather than facts. Consequently, the column inches devoted to individual stories is more related to their shock potential than to their newsworthiness. The page three girls are world-renowned and their appearance is a good barometer of the quality of this paper. But then I guess that is what it takes to sell newspapers!

The paper is always heavily publicising its exclusive revelations, which in many cases can be found in other tabloids. The paper also goes to great extents to emphasise when it has actually got the breaking story correct, conversely it is very slow to apologise when it gets it wrong – although when it does apologise it goes to great extent to highlight how sorry it is!

The one redeeming feature is the sports coverage, which in my opinion is second to none. Having said all this, The Sun is the number One newspaper, in terms of sales, and even I on occasion have read it for the sports coverage of course.
