Advantages: Absolutely None.
Disadvantages: Everything, including the fact that it should be a magazine not a newspaper.
I have long heard people talking about the Sun and how its very easy to understand, and doesn't get into politics like house of lords reforms or the heavy going stuff like The Daily Telegraph covers (A very good paper that i usually enjoy) so i thought right, this does not sound like a paper i'd enjoy but i'll give it a chance. I was pretty much disgusted by the lack of actual news and the very child like text and stories.
At my local newsagents i recently saw most newspapers with the front cover covering a story about Greece and their financial crisis. Riots had broken out and people injured. I glanced across and saw the Sun actually had a front page story about Cheryl Cole getting divorced from Ashley Cole. I thought what on earth were they thinking? It's a disgrace when you see a story about dead soldiers on the cover of most papers and then one of these magazine like newspapers does a celeb gossip story, i am truly disgusted.
Upon opening the Sun i found absolutely no intelligent stories about government, finances or anything to do with current affairs. there were a few stories about unemployment about 6 pages in after some adverts and yet more celeb gossip.
I'm sorry but i have enough going on in my own life not to care about Wayne Rooney swearing in a game of football or who's marrying who. The reading age of the sun is 8 the last time i checked and the text is certainly reflective of that. There is a very simplistic writing style, no big words or challenging explanations. The pictures a big, the titles cover a large proportion of the page and the text that is on the page is mostly gossipy drivel that i simply can't bare to read.
The newspaper really doesn't have any actual news that's worth reading. The sports section is very dumbed down and does not get into the nitty gritty tactical side of football like most other newspapers do. Instead i found a few quotes from managers and lots of information about them, and their team captains which i dont need to know about. I want to know what the fans were like during a game, how they reacted and were they supportive enough, maybe a bit of info about the less watched sports like golf ? I found absolutely none of that either.
This is a nonsense paper. I would prefer to read "Where's Wally?"
Summary: Absolute nonsense and drivel.
