The Sun - Newspaper & Online
Member Name: ajm89
Advantages: Good stories, sport coverage and opinions.
Disadvantages: cheesy headlines, sometimes repetitive.
I have been buying The Sun newspaper every day before work for the last 7 years and I am a big fan. I have seen alot of negative reviews about The Sun, saying its very biased and theres too much nudity and poor 'cheesy' headlines. The newspaper may be for a certain audience but I believe theres around 7 million people that read The Sun, surely there is something good about it. Isnt a newspaper about giving your opinion whether the views do favour certain people or not? The nudity issue, everybody knows about Page 3 and peopel dont have to look at it. The paper may be aimed more at males, i can see that, page 3, sexy celebs and the sports coverage - which is fantastic. I will go into abit more detail below.
Front page/headlines: This is how papers are sold, unless you are a regular buyer of the paper. The Sun usually does have something on the front page that grabs your attention. They also do alot of good offers which are displayed on the front page, such as, holidays for £9.50 and a free toy etc. Yes some headlines are cheesy but arent all papers?!!
Page 3: This is obviously for the adult reader and mainly the men out there. I believe that Page 3 has done well to get rid of its 'perverted image' and has become a respected part of the paper. The girls are not degraded and the competition The Sun run - Page 3 idol offers a great opportunity to aspiring models.
Sport: I think this is a key part of this newspaper. The sports coverage in The Sun is brilliant, especially if your a football fan (who isnt?). The back 8-10 pages are usually filled with sports news and stories and there is also a good pullout called 'Goals' which The Sun does, covering all the latest football matches. The Sun also have some decent columnists such as Ian Wright and Alan Shearer, who are usually a good read. There is also section for tip of the day for anybody who enjoys a bet.
Dear Deidre: Dear deidre is an advice page. Offering advice on relationships, sex, marriage, debt, depression and many more important issues.
Bizzare: These pages are full of the latest celebrity news and gossip and also include the latest chart updates etc.
TV BIZ: This is a pullout which focuses on all the latest television gossip.
Sun Woman: As a man i usually do skip this page unless there is a good story on the page. This page has alot of tips for women, usually on the topics of food, exercise, diets and other things women are interested in :)
Sun Letters: Here is the opportunity to have your say. You can email, text or write in with your views and the best letter of the day is awarded a £50 reward.
Rest of the paper: The rest of the paper includes the latest weather, latest lottery numbers, politics news at the start. Then the paper has all the latest national and international news and great exclusives. There is also a Tv Guide for that day, close to the middle of the paper. At the weekend there is plenty of other pullouts for people to enjoy.
I read the newspaper mainly but the website is very good. It is laid out well and all the categories of the website are detailed quite clearly. Online you have access to alot more than you do in the paper and you can look at previous stories and articles etc.
The Sun also has an app that can be downloaded via the app store.
Summary: A very good newspaper and i would say to everybody, dont believe what you hear. Give it a try!!
