Advantages: easy too read, entertaining, light hearted

Disadvantages: full of rubbish, negative stereotyping

I know what you are all thinking why would anyone defend the sun of all tabloid papers?
It plays on negative stereotypes, the actual news it presents or represents is of celebrities who we couldnt give a monkeys about and basically it is a poor piece of news. But..

Look at its primary purpose and audience. The sun is there to entertain its viewers and it does that very well hence murdoch's million pound bank account.

The audience the sun aims at are people who just want something to read during lunch or leisure time something thats light hearted and not too serious, this paper provides just that for its intended audience.
page 3 keeps the builders happy at lunch something they can laugh about while they are drinking there tea. ( now whose stereotyping ).
Pictures, & stories, about funny situations that celebrites are getting into however unimportant and most definately something with Rod Stewart or Mick Jagger shagging some twenty year old bimbo are quite humourous and interesting to its readers (something i will never understand). Although it does appear celebrity scandals have taken up most of the media the audience does find it entertaining.

The point i am trying to make is that the sun is entertaining, and that is what its intended for to entertain. Some people obviously dislike the sun and some do not find it entertaining. however the majority of the country do or rather a large proportion of the country do so its doing something right even if its doing alot wrong.
