Advantages: excellent sports coverage
Disadvantages: possible bias towards South Wales to the detriment of the North
.....that's what it claims to be and in my opinion that is what it certainly is. It provides comprehensive coverage of news stories affecting the length and breadth of Wales. It's standard of journalism is excellent. Despite covering the whole of Wales the paper also succeeds in bringing news from the local area in which you live (as far as it can). Like other national newspapers, it provides supplements on most days of the week. Monday, there is a review of the weekends sporting highlights which can be heavily focused on rugby, but then again it does take up a large part of people's leisure time in one form or another. But, it does also include reports on international and national sporting fixtures. Tuesday, there is a farming and countryside supplement. Which is read by a great number of people as a relatively large percentage of the population do live in rural areas. Thursdays' is appointments. Saturdays' is property and a magazine supplement. A Wales on Sunday edition is also published. International rugby fixtures involving are especially well covered with extensive pre and post match coverage. The one and only criticism that people tend to have for the newspaper is that it concentrates far too much on South Wales to the neglect of the North. Although, this is not an opinion that I have. Basically, if you live or are a visitor to Wales the Western Mail is essential reading for forthcoming events and reporting on past ones. A recommended read.

- 02/04/01 Interesting Op - I am loath to say this, but I must, the Western Mail concentrates on Cardiff and South East Wales rather than the rest of the country it covers |

- 16/01/01 Personally for news I used to prefer the SW Echo and the Daily Mail. I found the Western Mail too rural concentrated for my needs. :-) |

- 07/01/01 I find that the Western mail concentrates on SOUTH wales news more than the north. Dont you think? |
