Advantages: Superb images and articles

Disadvantages: Maybe a bit too wordy

Background
"The Wisden Cricketer" was formed in October 2003 when the two leading magazines, "The Cricketer" and "Wisden Cricket Monthly" decided to join forces. The Wisden Cricketer was born, bringing the cricket junkie their latest fix each month for the small sum of £3.75.

Layout
The background of most pages is a nice neutral white which makes the magazine nice and easy on the eyes, the font is a very simple black font which again makes reading a breeze. There is a lot of colour on most of the pages which immediately cleverly draws your eyes to specific articles!

What's in it?
The Wisden Cricketer provides a great mix of features for cricket fans of all ages.
The magazine begins with a couple of full-page pictures featuring the best photography captured during the last month.
The next section is the hugely popular "Letters" section, readers are invited to write in and discuss/have a rant about anything to do with the wonderful game. The letters are always extremely interesting and bring up relevant issues in the world of cricket. Each month the best letter wins a bottle of Cockspur Five Star Rum... what more of an incentive do you need!
We then come onto one of my favourite sections of the magazine "Openers". Openers is much like the title suggests the beginning of the magazine, it contains news, comments, analysis and much much more! The initial article each month is a superb idea, a theoretical cricket team is compiled. From the "XI new Bradmans" to the "XI greatest mistakes in cricket" this feature is always a detailed and interesting read. A quick flick through extras and you have caught up with the latest cricket news, and views from the huge amount of columnists including former England captain Nasser Hussain.

Now we move onto the meat of the magazine, three or four articles that span over several pages, these are what really makes the magazine great. Each article is something different, which really makes me, want to read on, from interviews with players to analysis of the television coverage there is always something to keep you entertained! The articles are all clever and witty which adds to The Wisden Cricketers overall charm!

Now we move onto another of my personal favourites, "Eyewitness" each month a former cricketer is interviewed about a historic cricketing moment in which they took part it. It provides a great insight into how the players felt during these moments, which defined the game of cricket.

During the English county season there is a 10 page section featuring the latest news from each of the English counties, this allows me to catch up with the goings on at my favourite county Middlesex Crusaders!

After County, we move onto World View, this allows us to catch up with the latest goings on in world cricket. In my opinion this is the magazines weakest section, it comprises of mainly vast chunks of text and could do with a few more quirky articles or pictures to liven it up a bit. But I suppose for some people it provides a lot of 'substance' to the magazine.

The magazine also features a wonderful section called "Tips from the top" this is where the stars of cricket help to improve your game, very useful for a weekend warrior like myself!

Summary
One of the best cricket magazines, to be honest it probably has a bit too much substance for younger readers but this mag suits anyone between the ages of 15-100... as long as you like cricket!

Summary: One of the best cricket mags out there!
