Advantages: Easy to read tv guide
Disadvantages: SOAPS-AAAH
I like so many millions of others, am on a mission to cut down on my spending. I want more money to spend on things I enjoy doing. So I decided that as I can read news online and watch it on tv as well- then my weekly paper at a cost of nearly £2 is now to be a treat rather than at the top of my weekly shopping list.
So that decision made I was left with the problem of getting a tv guide, as I normally get one free with my paper. I tried just using the electronic guide on screen, but I seemed to miss programmes. I tried using an online guide, but that didn't work for me either. So a cheap solution was needed - I loved the Radio Times, but that was quite pricey- so the hunt continued.
Thanks to a fellow Dooyoo member - I tried out TV QUICK and at only 40p it is ideal.
It contains 76 pages of which 42 are the actual tv guide. The rest being articles about tv programmes with the emphasis being on the soaps. There is also a film guide for the main channels.
Now I have to admit that the articles are not for me, when you are used to getting your tv articles from the broadsheets, well let's just say the standard of journalism isn't that great.
The puzzles are very very easy, and so I doubt I will ever bother.
But, puzzles, articles and horoscopes are not what I bought this magazine for- I want to know what is on tv and that job it does very well.
The main five channels have more in depth listings and the satellite channels get a programme listing in a smaller font, thus enabling a programme description in the space available. The satellite listings are done under useful headings:-entertainment/factual @ lifestyle/children/sport and last but my no means least- movies.
For the satellite channels it clearly lists where you can find the channels on your systems and Freeview has an especially large and clear symbol.
So I am very happy with my 40p spend and would recommend this TV guide to anyone spending more on their viewing planner.
Summary: Great value for the money

- 02/11/09 I love TV Quick! You should however if your on a budget, get the paper on a Saturday, 40p for the Star and you get a free TV guide, or better still, get online and plan your viewing http://www.tvguide.co.uk/ specially if you dont bother with the articles. Great review though xx |
