Advantages: Keep the children entertained
Disadvantages: Messy Time
Whilst passing the magazine section at Tesco’s the Tweenies magazine caught my daughters eye. It’s the December issue so it has a Christmas theme on the cover with all the Tweenies having tinsel draped around their shoulders. To tempt you further into buying the magazine they are giving away a free Tweenies t-shirt transfer. Let’s have a look through together:- On the first page you are greeted with an advertisement for the Tweenies Live 2 Tour. They are visiting Newcastle, Belfast, London, Manchester, Cardiff, Nottingham and Sheffield. The dates start from February onwards. I think this could be a lovely present for a Tweenie fan. If you want to know about this their web site address is www.tweenieslive.com Story Time:- This is a four-page story about Fizz’s fallen star. The pictures show the Tweenies with a large Christmas decorations box with tinsel, paper chains and baubles hanging out of it. By the end of the story all the decorations are on the Christmas tree and amazingly the lights worked first time!! Christmas Shopping:- Max has taken the Tweenies to the shops to do some Christmas shopping. Here you have to help them by reading what they want to buy and circling the correct picture. An example of this is that Fizz wants to buy a teddy bear and it must be brown and furry with a pink bow. There are four to choose from with different items of clothing on. Also on this page there is a section whereby the children can write over the dotted letters to spell the words. The next page shows a picture of Doodles that needs colouring and also underneath the picture is a dot-to-dot of 1-17 which is of a present the Tweenies have bought Doodles for Christmas. The magazine also contains a Wrapping Race game. When you play the game it will help the Tweenies to wrap their present in time for Christmas. You need to cut out the counters and roll a dice to play with u
p to 4 friends. Song Time:- Rocking around the Christmas tree! This is where you can see the song to the children or if they are old enough they can read it for themselves. Also on this page is a Christmas tree with a number of different presents hanging off it. Here you have to count how many snowmen, bells and round decorations are on the tree. They also suggest that glitter could be sprinkled onto the star at the top of the tree. Messy Time:- Make a pom-pom snowman. Oh how I dislike these kind of ideas, the pictures look so easy and you spend most of the day trying to find the materials to make it. What you will need is cardboard, glue, scissors, a ball of white wool, coloured felt and buttons. Well think of me at the weekend cutting up a cereal packet and visiting the wool shop!! Another story can be found in this magazine called “The little Christmas Tree! The story has lovely pictures and I am sure the children will love hearing this one. Messy Time again with “Decorate your tree”. Here the Tweenies are in different shaped Christmas decorations and you have to colour in the pictures, stick them on to card and cut them out. To hang them all you need to do is loop cotton to the back of each of them. Don’t forget the glitter!! News Time:- Is a page of photographs and pictures drawn by the children who read the magazine. The back page contains Tweenie items that you could buy for Christmas. Also in the magazine you can enter a competition to win the latest Tweenie Christmas Album. They have 25 to give away and you can enter by postcards or telephone. The magazine costs £1.35 and I think it is value for money, as this should keep the youngsters entertained for some time. However if you would like to make the items in messy time I suggest you go and get all the bits first before you let them see the magazine as it always ends in tear
s otherwise if you have not the items to make them with. HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!
