Advantages: ummm... articles are good
Disadvantages: adverts all the way
I'm not too sure how keen I am on Vogue. It is of the course one of the "big boys" of fashion magazine and viewed as being the holy gospel for many, however I have to say I dont like it for the following reasons:
- there are many many advertising features; I think i would say that about 60% of the magazine is adverts. While this is interesting to see what the fashions are, essentially you are just paying to see something with has not intellectual or genuine value.
- of the remaining 40% of the magazine, about a further 30% is full of models and fashion/makeup "features" heavily advertising products and I dont feel there is any genuineness in these features; one feels as if you are reading an article that a company has reviewed for itself and just padded out with some blurb.
To give it its due the remaining 10% has interviews/exposes on people and situations and this is very well written and interesting. At the massive price of £3.90 I dont think this amount of real content is justified - if i paid for this i would flick through it once, note the new fashions which you could read and see in cheaper magazine and think i had been cheated out of the money!
All in all, I know its an iconic mag but it just does hit the spot for me.
Summary: Dont bother
