Advantages: Comprehensive narrowboat, canal and rivers magazine

Disadvantages: None

You might know that I am keen on narrowboat holidays, as I have done a few reviews on here. Waterways World is a long established magazine that focuses on canals, navigable rivers and narrowboats. It is sold monthly, with a cover price of £3.40 (April 2008), with potential savings if you take out an annual subscription, which will also include delivery.

Typical contents include reviews of new boats; touring guides to various parts of the canal system; tips on boat handling; dealing with locks and moveable bridges; historical articles and photographs, the latest news about anything to do with waterways; opinions designed to stir up debate; knowledgeable reviews of new equipment; reports and previews of boat shows; canal book reviews; news of canal maintenance and stoppages; a canal diary for the month ahead; purchase advice and readers' letters.

Often in magazines advertisements can be a little annoying if you consider that both you and the advertiser are paying for the space, but in s specialist magazine like this, the advertisements are welcome and informative. Every month brings a comprehensive array of ads for boats, moorings, holiday hire, boat chandlery and all things related to canals and narrowboats.

The magazine is well written, and full of excellent colour photos. Maps are supplied with the articles about cruising. If you like canals and narrowboats, then give this one a read.

Summary: It's so good you will want to retain all of the back copies

We went on a canal boat trip on the Norfolk Broads when I was very young - if memory serves me correctly I think I enjoyed it! LOL x
