Advantages: Great information, Easy to understand, For both amateur & advanced users of the Internet
Disadvantages: None
I am normally a bit wary of new Computer/Internet Magazines that come onto the market, as I find they are a bit 'samey.' As they usually tend to be in the price bracket of £4.99 (with a free CD, which I don't normally need or want anyway) I nearly always give them a miss. Not so with Web User. I bought the very first issue and keep going back to the Newsagent every fortnight for the next issue. Costing a mere £1.20 every fortnight, it is an easy to understand Internet magazine for the experienced and not so experienced alike. It is written not in a patronising way, but an informative manner and in an easy to read and interesting format. You would think that there's only so much to be learned about using the 'Net and that all this information must have been covered in other magazines, but Web User continues to contain new items that I have not come across before in the couple of Internet magazines I do buy. There are step by step Workshops which although tend to show somewhat easy tasks such as how to add to Favorites - surely something almost everyone knows anyway - also contains more complex subjects such as how to rid your Computer of old and obsolete ISP's. Near the end of the magazine, there is the usual letters page, along with Readers' Websites, Reader Helps Reader and Reader Hints and Tips. I have actually found some very useful information when skimming through these pages. It reminds me somewhat of Computer Active which isn't a bad thing as Computer Active deals not only with the Internet but also general Computer news and information. I feel there is room for these two magazines on the market and will continue buying both. I will also consider taking out a subscription to Web User. I hope Web User stays with this format. I feel it is onto a winner and shall be buying it (or receiving it in the post) for a while yet.

- 21/06/01 VU, good op. It's a great mag although as you say some of the "workshops" (How To Send Email Attachments & the like) are much too basic. |
