Advantages: Up-to-date, Good Price, Offers good advice

Disadvantages: None

With an array of internet-based magazine publications on the market it is hard to single out one in particular. Each person has his or her own preferences. My personal preference is the fortnightly issues of Web User, which claims to be the ?UK?s best-selling internet magazine? with 67,250 readers (ABC statistics for Jan-Dec 2002). So, for me what is it that makes Web User the best of the lot?

Web User offers practical and concise advice, features and reviews. It has received recognition from the ?Plain English Campaign?. At a competitive price of just 99p Web User features links to over 170 websites in each issue, plus a further 1300 are published on their excellent, improved website (www.web-user.co.uk), which also features the latest news, reviews and advice.

I will know attempt to describe the issue of Web User I have in front of me at this very moment. All issues follow this format. So, from issue 61 (10-23 July 2003)?

The first page you open to is the contents page with the magazine publication details to the left of the page. The magazine is then split into categories. ?Regulars?, ?Features?, ?Cover Story? and ?Practical web user?. The cover story from issue 61 was a review on last minute holiday booking websites.

~REGULARS~

INBOX: - All the latest news from the World Wide Web. This covers as many as 8 pages.

LETTERS: - Readers get the chance to share their opinions and experiences with the Internet. The star letter wins £25.

BEST NEW WEBSITES: - Reviews of the best of the new and revamped sites. Each of the reviewed sites is issued with a star rating (out of 5) and the best sites are issued with awards.

BROADBAND USER: - A page dedicated to broadband users, featuring news and reviews.

TOP 10 SITES: - The top ten sites of a particular subject. Issue 61 covered Theme Parks with www.thorpepark.co.uk being the top site.

MOST WANTED: - Web User explores ?the latest ho
t kit on the net?. Issue 61 featured the Nokia 6600, Logitech mouse traveller and Ministry of sound DAB radio, amongst others.

COMPETITION: - Issue 61 gave you the chance to win a formula 1 race day. Entry is via post or e-mail.

CLASSIFIED: - Basically a directory of business website advertisements.

~FEATURES~
Features vary from issue to issue but to give you an idea of the type of features that are included in Web User, from issue 61?

GADGETS ON THE BEACH: - A feature on some excellent gadgets, including digital cameras, mobile phones, portable DVD players and MP3 players. Each product featured has its Recommended Retail Price with a website link.

PHOTO PRINTING SITES: - A selection of sites to experiment with your digital photos, including placing your pictures onto t-shirts, mugs, even chocolates!

I SAY, I SAY, I SAY: - Coincidentally this was a feature on consumer opinion sites. Ciao received an overall rating of 4/5 whilst Dooyoo came out on top with 5/5 and secured the ?Gold Award?.

~PRACTICAL WEB USER~
These pages are designed to help you get the best out of the web. Issue 61 included a feature on AOL 8?s new features, tips and tricks to help you start and Improve your own website, ?Reader Helps Reader?, which is a double spread with reader?s questions answered by fellow readers. A hints and tips page is also included compiled from those sent in by readers.

Web User is one of the most up-to-date magazines on the market offering a variety of reading topics. Web User is simply the best Internet magazine there is.
