Advantages: great ideas for realistic weddings
Disadvantages: pricey and lots of adverts (like all wedding magazines though)
When we first decided to get married (about 2 weeks after we met - no joke!), we were completely unaware of the maze of decisions facing us. Not being religious, a civil wedding was the more sensible option. Unfortunately, we currently live in a not-so-nice part of London and the local registry office leaves a lot to be desired - complete with bus stop by the door (perfect for photographs - not!). Browsing through the various wedding magazines did not help much either until I came across Wedding Day. In my opinion it is the only wedding magazine to offer real advice for real brides. The ideas ar always affordable and I particularly like the true-life weddings they feature in each issue. It was in Wedding Day that I spotted my dream venue - Tabley House in Cheshire and after one quick phone call we arranged to look at it after which we paid a deposit to secure our date. The total cost for getting married there is £350.00. All the other magazines didn't feature anything below £3,000!! When I initially saw these costs I thought it would be cheaper to marry aboroad particularly as I am a travel agent and can get some excellent concessions. But wouldn't it be a shame if young couples on a budget were forced to marry overseas away from their friends and family purely because venues in the UK are so pricey? I believe that people who can spend £3,000 on a venue and £1,000 on a mother-of-the-bride outfit (which I have also seen in wedding magazines) are able to afford a personal wedding planner anyway and are hardly likely to be scanning the titles at the newsagents for wedding tips. We need more realistic, down-to-earth ideas for down-to-earth couples.

- 30/04/01 A really helpful op (although I've already planned my tack-o-rama Vegas wedding! - just kidding) - and congratulations! |
