Advantages: Lots of variety, great recipies
Disadvantages: Bit expensive if not bought at WW class
Weightwatchers magazine is packed full of inspirational stories, great recipies and tons of tips. There is also quite a few new products advertised but i find this quite useful to see what new products are out there.
The magazine costs £2.60 to buy but if you are a Weightwatchers member and buy the magazine at a class you can get some money off - (i can't actually remember how much since its been a year since i went to a class).
I buy this magazine myself just every now and again when i feel like a want a boost or a bit of motivation to kickstart the diet. The stories in the magazine of people who have lost weight are really inspirational and when you look at the before and after pictures they show you it really makes you want to get on and lose some weight yourself.
There are usually 4 or 5 different success stories - usually women but they do feature men as well sometimes and i think more and more men are starting to use weightwatchers (there were 3 or 4 men at the class i used to go to and the leader himself was actually a man).
There are lots of recipies - ones for breakfast , lunch and dinner and special recipies for special occasions. Each recipe tells you the number of Points in a portion and the whole amount, plus with the new Discovery plan weightwatchers are doing they also now highlight "filling foods" in green so you can see which ones are the best for you if you are doing that plan. Some of the recipies are really nice and i prefer buying the odd magazine that is fun to read and has a few recipies in rather than buying too many of the Weightwatchers cookbooks themselves.
There are also informative articles and articles showing you how to make better choices with your food. E.g Instead of eating a Lion bar that is 5.5 points you can have an Asda Good for You Orange Chocolate crispy bar for just 1.5 points. The thing i like about the magazine is that it does actually name the brand names that you need to buy and often features the supermarket reduced fat / calorie brands such as Be good to yourself, Asda good for you etc as well as the weightwatchers brand foods.
The advice section is also quite good and there are also sections and articles on general health and fitness - the May 2009 issue for example has part 2 of a 2 part guide to starting a running regime - from walking to running it shows you how to train and how to progress which is great for people who have done little or no exercise before.
A great magazine - i only hope this time it inspires me to lose weight and keep it off for good!!
