Advantages: Soap plots and secrets revealed!

Disadvantages: Too many advertisements

What's on TV a brillaint TV listing magazine, out every Tuesday weekly and costs just 42p, available from newsagents and most supermarkets.
You can find out what exactly is on TV and at what time, for all your channels including sky/cable etc.

Great weekly magazine, attractive front cover, colourful and bold. Print is very easy to read and the magazine itself is easily understandable.
The front cover usually has a picture of a certain soap star that has a big story line coming up, with a bold interesting statement underneath. For example all you Eastenders fans : The pic on the front of the mag is the Mitchell brothers Phil and Grant and the title underneath something like Mitchells are back or whats next for the Mitchells?

Inside the magazine:
The first few pages are soap plots revealed, so if you dont like to find out skip these pages! If you are anything like me I love to read the plots! I must admit its less exciting when they come up on telly but I just cant resist!
Also on the first few pages the magazine tells you all about new shows coming on i.e gameshows or comedy shows. It explains exactly who the cast are or the presenter and a little about the show so you know exactly what your getting.

Film week:
This is a few pages telling us what films are on at what time and channel. Each film has a short statement underneath usually giving us an idea of what its going to be like. Also the genre of the film and sometimes the main character of the film can be found here.
The featured films which are like the big named films that most of us know for example Castaway, Green Mile or The Italian Job which are on that week usually have a short review about the film.
These reviews are quite useful because you can usually tell from these if its the sort of film you want to watch or not.

Listings:
BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 and Five are listed seperate from the sky channels and each are colour coded so you wont get mixed up. The listings are easy to read and understand, starting with the time of the programme then the name of the programme if appicable a little about the programme. In brackets next to most programmes you might find a (s) which means this certain programme has subtitles.
Picks of the day are listed on the left hand coloum, these are what the magazine editor would suggest to watch, they have a picture of a clip to intise you with an interesting sentance underneath.
What I think is very good on these pages is that on a Saturday and Wednesday you have a spce to put the drawn lottery numbers so you can check your tickets later if you havent got them to hand. Another good thing which I think is very useful is underneath all the listings you will find Regional Variations, sometimes different shows are on in other regions instead of the ones listed. What's on TV also apologies if they get the listings wrong this only mostly happens if live shows are on or the football.
Freeview channels and sky/ Cable channels are also listed in the same format as above. Each page right at the top has the date printed big and bold so you shouldnt get mixed up.
With the sky channels for example ITV2 the magazine also lets you know the channel number and if it is freeview. I find this helpful as I have freeview and when new channels arrive I find out by using this magazine. It is sometimes useful to have the channel numbers because sky channel and cablle channel numbers are different if you swap it can be a while before you get used to where your channels are.
There are so many sky/cable and freview channels and new ones added frequently. This means the magazine has so many to list, I find these are a little harder to look up as I am turning the pages back and forth trying to find the channel. All are very close together and in smaller print so these can be harder to read.

Towards the end of the magazine you have Tv gossip this is mostly about the stars of certain shows. They tell us whats in store for them next, certain secrets and what they like to watch when they are at home.
A preview of whats going to be in next weeks magazine, this makes me exited and cant wait till the next one is out, because they make the headline so exciting. (This proberbly is because im a soap addict!)
Also at the back you can read your weekly horoscopes by Colin Shearman, and a number to phone if you wish to hear more.
There is a big crossword at the back, which is quite easy to complete as its mostly about tv and some of the answers you can find by looking in the listings. There are a few other puzzles in the book all have prizes and a coupon to fill in at the back and send of if you wish.
The last part of TV extra is us! We can send letters in sharing what we liked or disliked about a certain programme. Also here you can send in questions and ask if your favourite soap star will be returning or you cn ask when shows might be coming back onscreen. Some people even ask what the title of the music is played in a certain advert and all get answered!

So overall a good magazine, for the price it is worth the money. I must say the general channels are easier to look up than the sky/cable. The only real bad point I can think of that I havent mentioned is advertisements. The magazine is pretty much full with different adverts each week and not just that you get a lot of junk posted inside the mag, sometimes when I go to open it they all fall out on my lap!

Summary: Good magazine give it a try!
