Advantages: Good selection of programmes and films reviewed, something for everyone, cheap
Disadvantages: None
Even though I tend to use the TV Guide on Sky I like to but Whats on TV each week to see what is coming up the following week. For only 45p it provides lots of information about the upcoming TV for the following week.
The magazine starts with the editor's choice of one TV programme they recommend.
There is then a page with short summaries of upcoming programmes that are said to be 'Hot' that particular week. For instance this week there is Strictly Come Dancing and Desperate Housewives. This page just provides with a short summary of the programe together with the day, time and channel it is on and if there is a bigger write up further on in the magazine it will tell you what page that is on.
There is then 6 pages of Soap News mainly taken up by Corrie, Eastenders and Emmerdale but also covers Neighbours, Doctors, Hollyoaks and Home and Away. There is a write up about the main storylines that week before 2 pages telling you the main happenings each day for each soap. It also gives you a small insight of what is going to happen the following week.
There are then write ups about popular drama programmes, for instance Casualty, Holby City and the Bill.
There is also a newish feature where they pick out people in this weeks programmes and tell you about where you might have seen them before.
There are then a few pages telling you about the real life programmes on that week for instance Cutting Edge, Panorama etc.
This week there is a sneak peak of US programmes coming to the UK soon. They often have specials such as this.
There is then the films section which reviews a large selection of the films on during the week. The films are split into the days they are on and it will give you the time, channel and their own rating of the film. It also provides the year it was made and the age certificate. They will review one movie in more detail, usually the biggest premiere of the week. They also pick out one film from Sky Movies to review and also a couple of the moview on pay per view. As well as movies on TV they also review one new film out at the Cinema and one new film on DVD.
The magazine then goes into what is on each day. The main 2 pages for each day cover channels 1 - 5 and gives a few picks of the day to look out for. The next two pages covering each day cover the most popular of the Sky and digital channels with the remaining two pages covering Movie channels, Radio, Kids and Sport.
There are always two fairly easy crosswords in the magazine, one in which you can win £100 and one in which you can win £500. You enter the competitions either by sending in the entry form from the magazine, by phone or by text. There is also a Spot the Shot competition in which you can win £100. There is also a just for fun Sudoku.
There is then star signs for the week ahead.
The magazine then gives you a quick preview of the programmes coming up the following week before finishing with the letters page.
Although there are a few adverts in the magazine they do not take over the magazine and can quite easily be flicked past!!
I think this is a good value for money magazine which covers all the main areas of TV and I think everyone would be able to find something that interested them.
Summary: A good value for money TV guide suitable for everyone
