Advantages: Cheap, clear, soap gossip
Disadvantages: Small sport section, a bit cheap looking
Up until a few months ago we had been buying the Radio Times every week but as the price was creeping up we have gone back to What's on TV.
If you are not familiar with it, although I expect you are, WOTV is a weekly TV listings guide/magazine. It runs from Saturday through to Friday and shows listings for both the main channels and a wide selection of freeview channels. The cost of the magazine is 50p which on a weekly basis is not a bank breaker. In addition to the TV listings the magazine also has a comprehensive guide to what's going on in all the soaps, film reviews, and write ups about documentaries. Dotted about the magazine are a couple crosswords, spot the shot, and soduku. There is also a small sports listing section.
I actually think I prefer this magazine to the Radio Times despite it costing a lot less. It's down to earth, informative about most aspects of TV and the listings are clear. It's the kind of magazine you can dip in and out of and you can easily find the information you want.
The only complaints I have are that it is a bit of a garish and cheap looking publication, but then again it is cheap and this doesn't really matter. If I were at all interested in sports I probably wouldn't be very impressed by the sports section as it's not even half a page. As it is this doesn't bother me, but it is something that might annoy others.
Overall this is a good, cheap weekly publication that covers exactly what I need it for.
Summary: A good value listings guide
