... the cover based on their musical abilities rather than popularity. A brave move in a climate of image over substance. It also has a very comprehensive review section with over 100 albums being reviewed every month. Add to this the already mentioned high journalistic standards and The Wire should be the avid music fans guide to the planet of sound. However The Wire instead comes over as the bible of pomposity and elitism. Interviews with bands are in the main so studious and lacking in excitement, they read as scienti...more

Premium Review Wire: Elitist Balderdash (562 words)
by - written on 20/12/00 (Very useful, 42 readings)
Rating:

Whilst a lot of the UK music magazines have become increasingly tabloid, The Wire stands out like a beacon in the literary wasteland. The standard of writing in The Wire is superior to that in every other music magazine. However this does not make The Wire a great magazine. Why? I hear you ask as I have previously called for high standards of journalism in music magazines. Fine I want better journalism, but not the kind that the wire offers. Excellent value for money, great content none at all

written by fans for fans and yet surprisingly professional in content (most of the time), takes sf seriously (as the BSFA should!). you’re probably going to have to join the BSFA to get to see a copy.

informative, backed with info, they know their stuff no fast cars or women/men

Entertainment value. Some good feaures. Expensive considering that (fraudulent?) advertisers now dominate most pages .

It lives up to it's name - the patterns really are quick and easy The patterns are so tempting that I tend to keep doing them rather than working at the bigger projects I've started

Good at the promotion price Planty of adverts
