Advantages: An extremely interesting read, and cheap for its price

Disadvantages: You have to have it specially ordered, and the 50 pages of solid adverts at the beginning gets them out the way.

Although it's an American magazine, it is quite probably, the best magazine for the technically-aware. I import my copy in from America [at WH Smiths] and Wired is the most interesting read I get all month.

It isn't your regular computer magazine - the articles are on as diverse topics of quantum physics to pirate radio stations. There are no reviews of normal peripherals or systems as you would find in a standard magazine. It is just very interesting technical snippets and articles.

My particular favourite sections are 'Must Read' - which is a summary of the recent tech-news stories, and 'Fetish' which details over 20 high-technology gadgets each month.

Be warned though - Wired has a particular style and not everyone will relate to it. It is aimed at the techno-savvy who wants a break from the day-to-day 'boring' computing articles, and successfully captures my imagination every week. You will learn a lot from the magazine, but all of it will be of interest.
