Advantages: Big Pictures, Glossy, Wow Factor

Disadvantages: Poor Content, Panic Mongering, Flavour of the month

I will start by saying in the beginning I gave wired a running chance and it gave me nothing in return.
My opinion of Wired is based on reading the magazine. (Approximately 20 times)

In my experience, wired is a pseudo-techno rag which spends too much money on image and not enough on quality writing and research. Be it the numerous 'Sky is falling' Y2K fluffarticles from 1999 that sent my marketing people into a panic over power grid mathmatics that resembled an eight year olds attempt at looking intelligent, or the constant barrage of flavour of the month articles that have no real meaning and even less worth, Wired is proving to be the Las Vegas of technical magazines. It gives you a lot of glitz for your money, but not much substance.

If you want articles written for the masses of Marketing Drones, Arts Students and Lawyers, then Wired may be good for you. If you hold any technical training, or have any interest in real technology, then I suggest you buy something else.

Oops.. makes me feel a bit thick in that much of it already goes over my head!
I like it as it's not a normal tech mag, and overlaps with art, fashion, sociology, and science. Everything in it is at a level not much higher than I can grasp. As you point out, academic it ain't (the gratuitous stats section is knowingly called infoporn for example), but I don't think it's totally meant to be, and surely half a picture is better than no picture at all?
Thanks for the read though - cheers, John

What would I find in Wired? You tell me why you don't like it, but I can't understand why, as I've never read it. If you made it a bit more clear of the content of the magazine and why it was so bad I would be happy to re-rate.
