(I suggested Hair Ideas magazine and dooyoo added Your Hair because it's by the same publisher. Please rate this normally as I am requesting it to be moved immediately). I?m not sure what compelled me to buy this magazine originally ? I think it might have been because I haven?t had my hair cut in a salon for over a year that I feel I can spend a bit on treats for my hair. I always found it useful in the past to look in hair magazines in salons before I had my hair cut to get some inspiration for styles; however, the few times I?ve seen hair magazines that friends have bought I?ve always found them to contain loads of those mental catwalk styles that are good for photos but you?d look like a nutter wearing any of them on the street. However, this magazine is different?. HAIR IDEAS MAGAZINE What immediately drew me to this magazine rather than others was the pretty style of the cover girl?s hair ? not a nasty outdated hairsprayed to the max classic ?up do? as some of the others present. The cover is splashed with lots of colour and interesting features such as ?101 colour ideas? or ?foxy flicks?. It always looks up-to-date and modern, which is reassuring when it?s claiming to be a style guide! It is slightly thicker but smaller than most magazines and so is very easy to spot on the shelf. Generally there are details of competitions and other things such as discounted haircuts. In any case, there?ll probably be something to grab your eye and entice you inside! Once inside the covers you?ll find a contents list. Thankfully it?s easy to navigate as it?s not one of those stupid mags that only have page numbers on some pages. Quite often the magazine will begin with a few pages on celeb styles and/or celeb?s bad hairdos. I?m not a celeb follower but it is
interesting to see how wrong or how right they can get it ? and can also give you some ideas of your own. I find the ?tried and tested? sections really useful ? this is where they take between eight and ten products in one category and put them to the test to find the best (for example, styling wax). I find this particularly good because it saves you wasting money buying all the dud products before reaching the best one. In addition to this there are generally several pages dotted throughout the magazine dedicated to ?expert advice? from top stylists. I find their hints really helpful as it?s not like you really get styling advice from anywhere else. There are always several real-life makeovers of the magazine?s readers and although they generally don?t give me new ideas I find it interesting to see how a great haircut can vastly improve someone?s general appearance! There is a section for questions from readers which receive answers from top stylists. Generally I don?t find this *that* useful because a lot of the questions seem quite obvious to me, but I expect one day something new will come up so I?m not complaining. And the main part?. There is generally a large section dedicated to full page hairstyles. They have a different feature each issue but generally it?s just something like ?101 most wanted styles? and they have a mixture of all different lengths and colours. This is the best part of the magazine because there are some really great styles in there (and when I say great I don?t mean crazy, I mean really pretty styles that would flatter anyone). There are daring styles thrown in every now and then but thankfully it?s not overloaded with mad ?catwalk only? styles. In addition to the brilliant pictures there are often little boxes telling you exactly what you need to ask for in the salon to achieve that look. As well as the chunk
y section of full page styles there are always several pages dedicated to styles for each length of hair. They have a section for short, mid length and long which is also fantastic for ideas. The only disadvantage is that there are numerous styles on one page so the picture you like may be smaller than you want it ? but I?ve no complaints as generally they?re nice and clear and not ridiculously small. And if that wasn?t enough there are normally a few competitions thrown into the mix. As I rule I am far too lazy to enter competitions but I really should do as they have some amazing stuff on offer (Tigi Bed Head sets!) VERDICT As hair magazines go, I think it?s great! There are always lots of modern style ideas and different suggestions. What to do and what not to do, and plenty of expert advice. What more could you want from a hair mag? It is available from most newsagents at £1.95 a go and there are 10 issues a year. carly_pussycat - dooyoo UK © Capital letters courtesy of: http://www.chuckleweb.co.uk/fixit.php
