Collection 2000 Big Fake Mascara
by k2705
When it comes to buying make up I often will stick to the same brands, but from time to time I am persuaded to try something new when it is on offer. I was recently looking for a new mascara and was planning on buying my regular brand when I spotted the Collection 2000 Big Fake False Lash Effect Mascara, I have used Collection 2000 ... products in the past and have found them to be of a reasonable quality so I decided to give this mascara a try.
Packaging
The Collection 2000 Big Fake False Lash Effect Mascara comes in a chunky black plastic tube, this is wide in the middle and thins out towards the top and bottom, the top half of the tube is actually the lid, this has a clear tip to it which in certain lights looks black and a bright pink band around the bottom of it with the words "Collection 200" written in it in black.
The main part of the tube has the name of the product "Big Fake False Lash Effect Mascara" written on it in pink and white writing. The back of the tube has a small amount of product information written on it in white, this includes a few facts about the mascara and the ingredients, the packaging is quite plain but it does tell you what you what you need to know.
When you unscrew the lid you will find the mascara brush attached, the handle is of a reasonable length giving you plenty of room to hold the brush and apply the mascara comfortably, the brush itself is a traditional style brush made up of soft bristles, the brush is also quite large and chunky so I was sure that it would coat all of my lashes effectively.
The Mascara
The Big Fake False Lash Effect Mascara is said to double your lash size with its lash boosting tube effect technology, it was this and its promises of no clumping and smudging that made me want to try this mascara.
I already have long eye lashes but I do like to go for a lash boosting mascara so that it makes the most of my eye lashes, the fact that it is also a non clumping one is also important to me as I really cannot stand clumped together eye lashes, in my opinion it is not a good look and to be honest feels really uncomfortable so if a mascara promises not to clump I am happy.
The information on the back of the packaging says that this mascara will plump and stretch each lash so I was sure that it would fan my eye lashes out nicely making the most of the length.
The consistency of the mascara is pretty standard and when you remove the brush from the tube it seems to be spread evenly over it which made me confident that the mascara would spread evenly and smoothly over my eye lashes.
I purchased this mascara in Ultra Black but it also comes in Black and Brown. It does state on the back of the packaging that this mascara is water resistant, it does not say waterproof so I took it that this means splash resistant rather than soaking your eyes.
Price and Availability
I purchased my 8ml tube of Collection 2000 Big Fake False Lash Effect Mascara from my local Superdrug, it cost me £5.99 which compared to some other brands is reasonably priced. I was happy to pay this price for the mascara as it is quite a bit cheaper than some brands.
My Opinion
I have been using the Collection 2000 Big Fake False Lash Effect Mascara for a little while now and have been reasonably pleased with the results.
I have found that the mascara tends not to smudge and is water resistant to a certain extent.
For me the way the mascara went on and whether it clumped was the main thing and I have to say applying it was reasonably easy, the mascara went on quite smoothly, I did find that when applying the mascara it did clump a little but they were easy to remove with the brush, however this did mean I had to spend a little longer getting my eye lashes the way I wanted them.
The mascara did enhance my eye lashes and make them stand out and it also lasted well, it didn't crumble off during the day and still looked good in the evening just before I took it off, it even withstands a trip to the gym.
The mascara is reasonably priced and I would consider purchasing this product again, although I do not prefer it over my regular brand, but if this was not available I would consider the Collection 2000 Big Fake False Lash Effect Mascara.
I would recommend this mascara to anyone looking for something reasonably priced, however there is not a huge range of colours to choose from and it can take a little longer to get your eye lashes looking just as you want them Read the complete review |

Boots 17 Doll'd Up Mascara
by elysia2003
~~~ The Mascara ~~~
Doll'd up mascara is from the SEVENTEEN range of Boots own brand makeup. I'm probably, I lie, I know, I'm not the target age range for this brand, being primarily aimed at teenagers. I've used various other products from this range before and have always been most delighted with the results, especially for ... the money I've paid, therefore I had no hesitation in buying Doll'd Up; and this review discusses my thoughts following my purchase.
This mascara promises a special lash lifting 24hr curl and volume benefits. Apparently, the curved anti-clump brush is specially designed to give you a fabulous set of doll like lashes and also give amazing volume and curl.
~~~ Appearance ~~~
The mascara comes in a black tube which features a lovely hour glass shape. The lid to mascara is bright red, and makes it look a little different to other brands. It's really quite noticeable on the shelf. The tube reminds me a little of a classic 1940's makeup style with a bold, black eye liner/mascara, and a bright red lip colour.
~~~ Price/Availability ~~~
I purchased this from my local Boots store a couple of months ago and feel I can now give it a fair review. The recommended retail price is usually £6.29, however, I got sent a voucher which meant this cost me just £2.00. In all honesty, even if I didn't have a voucher, this mascara would have appealed to me anyway, simply for its looks. The Mascara comes in 2 different colours which includes Blackest Black and Brown/Black. I prefer a more natural/less made up look for day to day, so I went with the latter.
~~~ Using the Mascara ~~~
Due to the slim middle of the hourglass shape, it's extremely easy to hold. The mascara wand is roughly the same length as the barrel, which is good as it enables you to get right to the bottom and get all of the product out; there's nothing I hate worse than waste. The anti-clump brush looks to be made from some sort of silicone/plastic material rather than actual bristles, and it gently curves so that it will fan your lashes out to give a wide eyed look.
~~~ Results ~~~
I didn't think I had particularly long lashes, until it was pointed out to me by a New CID makeup artist. I thought everyone's lashes were more or less the same as mine; I don't really get close enough to check, I did however know that mine were sparse due to over use of eyelash curlers when I was young, and very fine. Since January when it was pointed out, I've made a conscious effort to purchase volumising mascaras rather than lengthening ones; in order to make my lashes fuller and less spidery. I hadn't even realised why this was happening, I was blaming it on my choice of mascara, which was usually something cheap and cheerful from the Avon Catalogue.
Upon application I can see that although this is a brown/black, it's most definitely more brown than black. It doesn't have the intensity of blackest black as you would expect, but it doesn't have the depth of colour that you would expect either; it's like a muddy chocolate brown. It's perfect for day to day wear; or a natural look though.
The tip to the wand is sort of an elliptical shape, wider at the middle and a pointed tip so get those hard to reach tiny corner lashes; one side is almost straight, and the other side has a wide curve. It's quite a weird shape to the wand, but it works really well. I can indeed confirm that this doesn't clump. I usually apply the first coat with the flatter side, so as I can get the product on the eyelash. The second and consequent coats, I apply with the curved side, to get the fanned, wide eyed, curled look to my lashes.
Even with three coats to my lashes there is no clumping, but three coats or more are needed to give even a hint of volume. This is where this product lets itself down. I had high hopes for this product, being from the SEVENTEEN Boots range, but it just doesn't give me the va va voom I'd hoped for. It makes my lashes more defined and separates them wonderfully, but although I wasn't expecting the oomph and voluptuous look that false eyelashes give, I was hoping to at least see a nod in that direction.
~~~ Overall Opinion ~~~
Although I wasn't impressed by the lack of volume, I was impressed with the curl, and the overall natural effect. There wasn't any clumping at all, even after applying multiple coats which I'm pleased about. I did find that I needed a minimum of three coats to give my eye lashes the definition I required; they don't however feel overloaded or heavy. Even though I'm using so many layers I find it doesn't flake off during the day which is another positive, although I can't contest to its promises of 24hr curl and volume. It does curl but doesn't provide much volume as I've mentioned, but I'm always mindful to remove my makeup at the end of the day; usually with a Burt's Bees cleanser, and if I'm up late, it could just be a Nivea face wipe, so it gets more of a 14/16 hour wear rather than a 24 hour one. Both methods of removal are really quick and easy as this isn't waterproof.
~~~ In Summary ~~~
At £6.29 I think it's a little overpriced as it doesn't live up to its promises, but I think if you can buy it at a reduced price (it's often on 3 for 2) and prefer a natural look, I would give it a try. I do think the curl was fair, the volume not so good, and the overall effect was moderate. I prefer a natural look, but I was hoping to get just a little more drama and definition. I would have to say that this mascara was reasonable, especially for the price I paid, but I won't go out of my way to buy it again, that's for sure. Read the complete review |
