Revlon Baby Stick Lip and Cheek Tint
by walsha11
I do hate to write overly negative reviews because I think experiences can be very subjective but sometimes you come across a product that just really gets your back up.
I bought this product on a random trip to boots to pick up some more foundation. I saw this while browsing the make up stands and because I had a £3 off ... voucher for revlon I thought I'd give it a try. I thought it might be similar to clinique chubby sticks or similar to the max factor creme blushes which double up as a lip tint. Being frugal at heart I like to get value for money and this product claimed to be both a lip colour and a cheek tint, how far wrong could it go?
Well, I have little issue with the pacing, it is essentially an oversized lip balm with a stick about the same size as a 20p/10p. The colour of the tube reflects the colour of the balm you get and despite being tempted by red I went for a pretty coral colour called tahitian because I felt the cheek tint might be a better shade.
Upon winding up the stick the first thing that hit me was how little you actually get, the size of the tube is quite deceiving because you get maybe only 1 1/2 cm of actual product inside. The product itself is much more like a balm than it is a lip colour or a cheek tint. It feels much like a lip salve when applied to the lips, it has that almost sticky waxy consistency which as you can imagine is totally unpleasant if applied to your cheeks. I also found immediately that there was no visible colour on either my lips or cheek. I did go for the lightest colour of the three available but even so I would still expect to see some colour from a product that claims to be a lip colour and cheek tint.
If they had marketed this as a coloured lip balm I would be less annoyed. The fact that they are promoting this as cheek tint is frankly ridiculous. There were no samples in the store so I was unable to try it out probably because no sane person would ever buy this if they had tried it as it is clearly money down the drain.
The price is really the final kick in the pants. This glorified lip balm costs a whopping £6.99 and even with my £3 off voucher it still was a ridiculously overpriced £3.99. I cannot overstate how much this product is a massive rip off. Even if the other colours are more visible the feel of applying a lip balm to your cheeks is unpleasant, the actual quality of the lip balm is poor and there is no visible colour on a product that is designed to add colour.
I am beyond frustrated with this product - it really deserves 0 stars...I guess the 1 it gets is for sheer balls that they are selling this when it is utterly rubbish and overpriced. Read the complete review |

Dior Vernis Nail Lacquer
by sparkle1004
I really like nail varnishes but it's not an item that I choose to splash out on. That doesn't mean that I don't like using the more expensive brands though so I was very happy to unwrap one of the Dior Vernis Haute Couleur High Lasting Nail Lacquer on my birthday!
What does the product do?
The product promises to give ... the nails a beautiful splash of colour with a shiny lacquered finish and long lasting results with a chip resistant formula. The added benefit is that while it keeps your nails looking beautiful, it actually strengthens and restores the nails when the polish is worn frequently. It also helps to speed up the growth of the nails and to stop the nails from growing so you should have lovely looking nails both during and afterwards.
Available Shades
The product comes in lots of vibrant and colourful shades which range from reds, purples, blues and neutrals. There have lovely names like Lucky, Plaza and Nirvana. I was given the very pretty Riviera which is a gorgeous coral orange shade.
Packaging and Price
The product comes in a classy looking cuboid glass jar which is transparent and you can see the varnish inside. It has the name of the product on the front and a silver lid. The wand is found in the lid when you unscrew the product and it has medium sized bristles which are thick. The product is going to cost £18 for 10ml of the nail varnish and it can be bought from stores such as Boots and Debenhams, and also from a range of online supermarkets.
Application and Performance
The varnish has quite a thick consistency for a nail varnish but it isn't so thick that it makes it difficult to work with. The brush is also quite large which means that you can mostly coat the nail in one go which saves time but I've also find that it's harder to be accurate with the application. Unless I'm being really careful then I do get some on the skin around the name but his can be removed with a cotton bud and nail varnish remover. The colour goes on beautifully and with one coat the colour is almost opaque but two coats makes the coat look perfect and it then matches what you can see in the bottle.
The product dries completely within a few minutes and then you can go about your daily business without you having to worry about smudging your work of art. The colour has a lovely shiny finish just as promised and your nails gorgeous. The varnish has long lasting results and it doesn't chip or fade for around 5 days, even when I am doing jobs around the house, when I wearing a top coat. The product is easily removed using my usual nail varnish remover and my nails are in a good condition once the product has been removed. I can't say that I have noticed the formula has made my nails grow faster but I have noticed that they are stronger and in a better condition.
Conclusion
All in all, this is a lovely nail varnish which leaves a gorgeous opaque colour in two coats and has a beautiful shiny finish. The varnish doesn't chip or fade for days but it is still easily removed with a nail varnish remover. Although it didn't really make my nails grow faster, it did leave them stronger and in a better condition. The product is really expensive for a nail varnish and I can't say whether it's actually worth paying double the price of a varnish that would get the job done just as well but I would happily receive another shade as a present! Tesco Everyday Value Cotton Wool Pads
by loopylou1234
Like most families at the moment we are doing our bit to try and save some money by buying own brand products when shopping. When I was last doing my Tesco shop, I noticed these Tesco Every Day Value Cotton Wool pads, I thought these were a good price so I bought them.
The pads are packaged in clear plastic with the name ... printed on the front with purple images and darker purple and lilac lettering. On the back of the tube shaped packet is information printed. It tells the reader that there is approximately 80 pads in a pack and it gives a warning about keeping plastic bags away from children as these can be a suffocation hazard.
The pads are a circular shape and are white, they are made of quite thin cotton. I use these on a daily basis, mainly for taking off my make up. I use a creamy makeup remover and also a toner. These also get used for removing nail varnish.
I am pleased with these, they are just as good as more expensive versions. They are suprisingly strong, as they don't fall apart when I am scrubbing off nail varnish.
These are available from Tesco stores and also from their grocery online shopping site www.tesco.com and they are priced at 49p a pack.
I will be buying these again and I would recommend them.
Thanks for reading. Read the complete review |
