Advantages: Nice colour, good price and easy to apply
Disadvantages: Chips easily
I don't really think of myself as a girly girl and don't really buy a lot of cosmetics. I am not one for normally going out and buying nail varnish either as I bite my nails and shock horror, even sometimes the skin around them!! Yes you heard me right!
So recently I've been surprised myself to realise that my nails have actually grown quite a bit and because of this it has spurred me on not to bite at them or the surrounding skin. To help me in this quest I decided to actually go out and buy some pretty nail varnishes that I could then use to highlight how nice my hands would look if I stopped biting them all together! My husband and best friend were both quite surprised to say the least when I told them I had actually gone into Boots and bought 4 varnishes in one go! Three of these were the Boots 17 brand, one of which I am going to review now and is the shade 'Cocoa Cabana'.
The varnish:
The varnish as mentioned is from the 17 range and is one of the 'high gloss' shades which to me says it should be of a shiny and glossy like once painted on. The varnish is not too thick but not too runny either so is a nice consistency for painting nails.
The colour:
The shade Cocoa Cabana as you would probably expect from the name is a brown colour and actually does resemble the colour of a chocolate bar! It was partly the name that drew me to it!
The colour is that of a deep brown but not as in a dark chocolate if that makes sense!
The bottle:
The varnish comes in a rather bog standard looking bottle - it has a cylinder type bottle that is about average for nail varnish at 12ml and has a navy coloured top that unscrews. The bottle is simple with just a clear sticker around it that highlights the shade, name, brand and applications instructions.
Application:
The bottle states to 'shake well' and to 'apply 2 coats for maximum coverage. I did this and set about painting my nails. I should point out at this point that if you're anything like me I cannot seem to paint my right hand very well on my own being a right handed person and also am not great at getting it to look generally as neat as my friend can do hers! I am also not clued up on brush styles and which work best as I don't not often paint my nails so this is almost like a beginners opinion!
Price:
The varnish is only available from boots, either in store or online ands the single bottle price is £2.79. However look out for the offers as they normally run a two for £4 offer so if you know you will buy more than one it is worth taking the offer and getting them in pairs!
Overall opinion:
I quite like this shade as it's a nice deep colour without being too loud. It goes on easily enough and after two layers is a lovely shade of brown. I would recommend this shade for those who don't like the brighter colours as it will match a more modest outfit. For a cheape end nail varnish it also stays on quite well for at least a couple of days before starting to chip.
Summary: A goo nail varnish if on a budget or just experimenting with colours
