“ Brand: Boots 17 / Type: Bronzing „
= = = = = = The Product = = = = = = As some of you have noticed I have been reviewing a few items from the Boots Seventeen range. This is mainly because I purchased a few items that were on offer, otherwise this isn't a brand I really buy as much as I used to because I prefer using other branded products now due to them giving better results than some of the products in this range. This is Boots own brand of make-up so you won't find this range anywhere else such as Superdrug. A few weeks ago I was looking for a highlighter that I could apply to my cheeks and other areas to give my face a healthy glow. Although I purchased one from the Smashbox range, I also purchased this one as well before even trying the one from Smashbox (see review for results of this one). The product I am reviewing is a shimmer brick containing four bronzed colours that work together to give your skin the ultimate glow. This product washes off with warm soap and water. This sounded like a good product that I could use on certain areas of my face in order to make area's look slightly highlighted which in turn would hopefully give me a healthy glow. The shimmer brick comes in a square compact which clearly states on the front what the product is and whom it's made by. The lid has a clear section which means you can see all the different colours that make up the shimmer brick. On the back of the compact it tells you how to use the product and it also lists the ingredients. I am reviewing the Pink Bronze version of this product. It does also come in Gold Bronze but I thought this may look a little too much on my pale skin. When you open the lid to the compact this reveals the 4 colours which make up the shimmer brick. The colours are represented in straights blocks on top of each other so when you sweep a brush over the brick you get a mixture of the different colours. The darkest colour is at the bottom which looks like a very deep golden bronze colour, on top of this is a slightly lighter colour which is a lighter bronze colour, then a dark pink bronze colour and then a rose pink bronze colour. All the shades are shimmery so they all look slightly metallic and it's quite hard to describe each individual shade perfectly. = = = = = = = Price/Availability = = = = = = = You can purchase these from Boots stores or from the boots website (www.boots.com) for £4.99. It clearly states on the front of the product which colour you are purchasing out of the Gold Bronze or Pink Bronze. = = = = = = = = Using the Product = = = = = = = = To apply this product you will need a brush and they recommend using the Seventeen Shimmer brush which can also be purchased from Boots stores and online. (Priced at £3.29) I have lots of make-up brushes so I didn't purchase the brush as recommended. You can actually use this product in a few different ways. I was going to use the product to contour and highlight areas such as my cheek bones. To do this simply sweep your brush over the brick and then apply to areas of the face where you want to highlight. I only swept the brush across the brick once as I didn't want my cheeks looking too shimmery or over the top as I wasn't sure how this product was going to look having not used it before. I could always apply some more of the product if I needed to. I had already applied my foundation and a powder over the top so this was the finishing touch to my make-up. I had already applied a matte bronzer to my cheeks and where the natural sun would normally tan my face such as my t-zone and chin. I carefully swept the brush over the colours. I could see that the brush was slightly shimmery but it didn't look as though there was much product on the actual brush itself. I applied the product to the tops of my cheeks using a small brush. I also applied it to my temples as well to give my face a really nice glow. The product is really easy to apply using a brush and I found that the product doesn't fall down onto the rest of your face when applying it. Rather than sweeping the brush all over the colours, you can also use the individual shades to contour and highlight. They also suggest using the individual shades as an eye shadow; how-ever I wouldn't personally use it for this as I have a separate bronze coloured eye shadow that I already use. = = = = Results = = = = After applying the product carefully to ensure I didn't over-do it I looked at the results in the mirror. My cheeks had a lovely healthy glow to them which didn't look too glittery. I have to admit that I was a little worried about this at first when looking at how shimmery the product was. I really liked the light glow that the product gave to my skin and the shade I purchased (Pink Bronze) was perfect for my skin and went well with my natural looking foundation. I didn't apply anymore of the product as I think it would have been too much for the day, how-ever I would be tempted to apply this product to my shoulders and chest to give them a bit of shimmer and glow when going out on the town. I went to work as normal and would see how the product lasted during the day. I have to admit that I didn't check my make-up until around lunch-time which was at least 4-5hrs after applying the product. When looking in the mirror, I still had a nice healthy glow to my skin and it looked just as good as it had when I first applied it in the morning. The next time I checked my make-up was before leaving work. Again I was impressed that I still had that nice glow to my skin. In fact the product stayed on my face until the early hours of the evening which is when I took my make-up off. I was impressed by this as I thought I may have needed to re-apply the product at some point during the day. I use facial wipes to remove make-up followed by cleansing lotion and toner, and I found that the product came off easily with my other make-up. I would like to add at this point that I always apply a primer before applying any make-up which can help make-up last longer. I haven't used this product on its own so I can't comment on whether the product lasts the same amount of time as it would without a primer and putting it on top of a foundation. = = = = = = = Overall Opinion = = = = = = = I wasn't really sure what to expect from this product as some items from the Seventeen range are quite good, but others aren't quite so good which is why I quite often use different branded products due to the quality and results. I think it's great that this product comes in two different shades which make it suitable for people with different skin tones and colours. I was a little worried by how shimmery the product looked at first and I was worried that it was going to look a little too glittery, how-ever once the product had been applied I was impressed at how subtle you can make the product look. I found the product really quick and easy to apply using a brush and I found that it really did give my skin a nice, healthy glow. All the time I was wearing the product I didn't experience any reactions with it, which was good as I have sensitive skin, especially during this time of the year when the weather gets colder. I like how you can also use the colours individually to highlight and to use them as eye shadows. I can't comment on how good they look as eye shadows as I won't be using the product in this way. The product lasted a really good amount of time without having to re-apply it and it comes off easily with a facial wipe or other products. In terms of value I think the product is very reasonable as it works really well and you only need to use a little of the product for a nice, subtle glow to your skin. Although I do prefer my Smashbox highlighter set I will definitely keep this and will use it in between using the Smashbox one. I would definitely recommend this product to others, especially if you can't afford expensive make-up but want good results. (review may also appear on ciao)
Purchased this bronzing brick for a holiday last year and i am still using it, i would say i use it a few times a week and there is still quiet a lot of product left! *DESCRIPTION This bronzing brick has four layers of bronzing colours starting light and getting darker, this allows you to be in control of how dark or light and what kind of bronzed look you are after. I think it is the variation of colour in this brick that allows it to still be usable throughout the year even though i purchased for holiday to add an extra glow. *PRICE/PACKAGING This versatile brick retails at £4.99 from Boots which i think is fantastic for what it is, there are others on the market 4times the price! I really like the black square box look and think the item looks classic and expensive. I would also add that in the past i have dropped many powders and bronzers and they have cracked and become unusable, this however, has not cracked after many falls! *PRODUCT/REVIEW I really would recommend this brick as it adds a lovely golden shimmer to the face, but also i use it down my neck and chest and it is just lovely... it could even be used as an eyeshadow. For this reason i think it is such an asset to my makeup bag and on holiday for its many uses. I would add that at times i think i should have used it more sparingly as i look too shimmery and for this reason i would just add that as a word of warning and if you are looking for bronze but no shimmer then needless to say it may be best to avoid this product. I use a big chunky brush and run is through the shades and sweep over my cheek bones, forehead, nose, neck and chest for a shimmery slightly bronzed skin. The lightest colour could be used alone as a highlighter. *SUMMARY Although for some people it may be too shimmery, i stand by my positive review and just how useful and affordable and durable this product is.
Shimmer bricks are a great tool for adding light, sparkle and shimmer to your face and collar bones. This 17 version looks great in the packaging and produces a great result. It cost me £4.99, though I ultimately recieved it for free as part of the seemingly never ending 3 for 2 offer at Boots. PACKAGING The shimmer brick itself is in a simple, glossy black square container which fits easily in make up bags, handbags, inside pockets and clutch bags. The text on the lid of the container is easy to read and has a simple elegance. The shimmer brick is very snug within the packaging and I had no problems with it lifting away from the base. THE SHIMMER BRICK The shimmer itself is made up of four different strips of shimmery colour. The lightest is a very creamy gold and the darkest is a mid-tone brown. These can be used individually as eyeshadows and work well for contouring around the eye. I tended to use a mid sized brush to create a shimmer across my cheekbones, forehead, nose and the upper middle of my lips and swirled the brush across the entire range of colours. The result is a great, light shimmery glow. I would not use this product to contour my face as the shimmer is so prevalent. I would definitely recommend using this to swirl shimmer on your skin and form a soft but noticeable glow. The shimmer brick is very hardwearing and lasts months with everyday use. Perfect for holiday and tanned skin!
This is a lovely look for summer and one to take you into these cold winter days with a bit of colour on your face. I have used a shimmer brick before, a Bobbi Brown one to be exact and loved it but I just could not justify the £29.50 price tag when I needed to replace it earlier this summer. That is alot in my opinion on one piece of make up that I only wear now and again and during the summer and alot when I have other more pressing items to buy such as nappies. Thats why I was really happy when I found this almost identical shimmer brick in the Boots 17 range. For just £4.99 I thought it was the perfect price and I like the colour combinations on offer and was excited to try it and see how it lived up to the amazing Bobbi Brown one. I chose the pink bronze colour as I have quite pale skin and wanted something that wouldn't be too harsh on my skin and I thought the pink would be better than a darker brownish colour. Boots say that you can, "Be sun kissed in an instant with 17 Instant Glow Shimmer Brick. It has multi shade bronzing for ultimate glow appeal." A shimmer brick is basically a pressed powder but one that has some shimmer and sparkle in it. Instead of having just one colour like a normal bronzer this shimmer brick has four shades of pink which go from darkish to light. The stripes go horizontally across the brick so when you use a big brush on this brick all you need to do is sweep it up and down over the different coloured powders in order to get a nice dusting of all the colours and then I just apply it to my face. I find it easy to use, I just apply it to my cheekbones and do a sweep across my forehead and I also sweep across my chest as well if I am wearing a low cut top in order to add some colour there. It definitely gives my face some colour and makes it look quite shimmery and it really glows too which is lovely. It has a lovely sparkly finish and I find that it really lasts for a long time. It looks like I am glowing without really trying to do anything which is nice. It compares well to the Bobbi Brown one and I think the price is brilliant. I have only used a little bit during the summer and so I have lots of the product left so its definitely good value for money too. All in all a great Boots 17 product.
~~~~~~~~~ A cheap treat ~~~~~~~~~ I do like to treat myself to new make-up now and then, and as I do buy quite a bit I tend to stick to the cheaper brands, as I often find products that are excellent for low prices. 17, which is a brand available only in Boots, is one that I really like - products are relatively cheap but tend to be fun and good quality. ~~~~~~~~~ Stripy bronzer ~~~~~~~~~ I usually use bronzing beads as a bronzer but I have had my current ones for a while and was keen to try something new. And this one really caught my eye. It comes in a small black square-shaped compact, and inside there are four stripes of bronzer, which resembles much more expensive bronzing products. It comes in two varieties - pink bronze and gold bronze. I opted for gold bronze, which is the one pictured here. It costs £4.99 and with this you get 32 Boots Advantage Card points. There are also frequent deals across the 17 range including gifts with purchases over a certain amount, so do look out for these. As I say this is a nice looking bronzer. The four shades of bronze in the compact start from quite dark moving up to a shimmery gold shade. The colours complement each other and none of them is too dramatic. To use this, I take a large blusher brush and gently roll this over the four colour to get a nice even mix of all four shades. This seems to work well and gives me just the right amount of powder. ~~~~~~~~~ A subtle glow ~~~~~~~~~ I apply this to the outside of my cheekbones after applying a pinky-coloured cream blush to the apples of my cheeks. The effect is very subtle - I have a light Asian skintone so this isn't at all dramatic or particularly obvious on me - instead it gives a very subtle hint of bronze and shimmer to my cheeks. This is just right for me as anything darker would just look odd and I prefer my bronzing products to give a more natural look. ~~~~~~~~ In summary ~~~~~~~~ I really like this bronzer. It isn't going to work miracles but it definitely gives my face a nice, subtle glow. It's really quick and easy to apply and overall I would recommend this if you after a simple but effective bronzing product.
