Advantages: Brilliant For Toe Nails.

Disadvantages: Rubbish On Finger Nails.

I'm not really one for painting my nails until the 'summer' hit us and I could ware open toe shoes at work. I'm not a fan of toes and thought mine could do with some brightening up.
I was in Boots (as most my reviews seem to start) and noticed they had an offer on, buy any Number 17 product and get a free nail varnish. At the time I was planning on buying some of their Dazzle Eye Shadow and not nail varnish. But obviously took the offer up!

The free nail varnish I got and which I am reviewing is 'Tropical Island'.

When I read the small glass bottle it said "Up to 5 days of lasting colour. Chip resistant."
Along with the lovely bright colour this also attracted me to get it, because I don't have much time to keep re-applying nail varnish every 2 or 3 days.

When it came to painting my nails I thought the varnish was a little bit runny, but I continued to paint my toe nails and found that it was very easy to apply!
After one coat the colour was no where near the bright orange / coral inside the bottle. It does say to apply 2 coats but I didn't think that would be enough and thought I would have to apply 3 if not more coats.
I let my toes dry and it took around 3 -5 minutes before it was fully dry and I then applied the 2nd coat.
The brush was very easy to hold and it spread the varnish evenly.
After the 2nd coat I was impressed how the colour suddenly changed and it did look like the colour in the bottle.
I left it to dry and I didn't need to apply any more coats.

So does it last 5 days?
On my toes yes it does, in fact it lasts longer! I'm really happy with the results on my toe nails. I applied it a week ago and it looks like I applied it yesterday, from height view I can't see any chips.
On a closer view there are just 2 chips- One at the top of my little toe and one at the bottom of another toe.

For the finger nails I can't say many good things.
Applying it is the same as the toe nails, but the lasting fix just isn't lasting.
I applied it one evening and by about 10pm I had already chipped it and I hadn't done anything except get changed.
I went over the nail again and it was a bit un-even but couldn't be bothered to do much about it at that time.
After a full day pretty much all my nails were chipped, so off came the varnish.
Removing the varnish was extremely easy and didn't take very long. I used cotton wool balls as that's all I had handy and some basic nail varnish remover and it came off like a dream.

Overall I'm very impressed with this product for toe nails only, and have since brought some other colours.
For my finger nails I haven't used it since and probably won't use it again.

The nail varnish comes in an 8ml bottle and costs £2.73. The price is excellent and worth the money for toe nail use.
They come in a range of different colours from bright to light.
You can only purchase them in Boots stores as it's their own brand, as it's their own brand you are able to buy it in most of their stores even the small ones.


I'm not sure what star rating to give this product, definitely 5 Stars if it was just for toe nails but as it's meant to do the whole package I'm debating between 3 or 4 stars.
I'm going to be generous and give 4 stars, if we could do half stars on DooYoo I would give it 3 & a half.

Recommended For Toe Nail Use ONLY.
