Advantages: cheap

Disadvantages: doesn't last

I do not normally wear lip liner, however a few months ago I got a voucher from the Boots Advantage card point entitling me to a free 17 Perfect Pout lip liner when I bought another product from the 17 range, which is how I ended up with this.

~About the product~

This lip liner is described as being a 'soft, lasting pencil to define lips.' It is dermatologically tested and fragrance-free. It comes in several different colours, the one I have is called 'In the Buff', which not surprisingly given the name, is a nude colour.

The pencil itself is Navy blue with silver writing embossed onto the side. If you look at the very end of the pencil, it is shaded in the colour of the lip liner. It has a clear lid.

~Using it~

I found that the tip of this pencil felt quite scratchy against my lips, and that it was dragging my skin a bit, which didn't exactly make for a great start.

I found that the first time I used it, I must have pressed down too hard as I got a really harsh lip line. I removed it and tried again, this time pressing lightly and it seemed OK. I have found that once it is on the lips, it has quite a creamy texture to it, and you can blend it in towards the centre of the lips a bit, so you don't have so much of a harsh line.

~Results~

I had tried to find the most neutral colour I could with this, as I knew I wouldn't use it very often, and wanted it to match with most of my lippy's which also tend to be quite neutral, safe colours. I thought that once on my lips, it does look quite natural, and providing you don't press down too hard when applying it, it wont give that harsh lip line that you can often get - I call it the Jodie Marsh effect!

The liner didn't seem to last very long, it came off pretty quickly in fact, even after I had applied my lipstick it seemed to have all but disappeared.

~Price~

This will cost just £1.99 from Boots.

~Conclusion~

This was OK, especially considering that I got it free, but there's nothing about it that has convinced me to start using lip liner, or in fact buy this again. If you are looking for a lip liner that will give your lips a natural outline, this may be worth a try, as it can look quite good when applied lightly, however it didn't last very long and needs frequent re-application.

Summary: The perfect pout?
