~*~*~*~* Bargain make-up *~*~*~*~
Taking full advantage of a 3 for 2 deal on cosmetics in Superdrug I selected three items from its own 2True range of cosmetics, which is already ridiculously cheap at £1.99 per item or £5 for three. As the range was also on 3 for 2, I picked up three little goodies for a mere £3.98.
This review is for two of the three items I picked up that day, which are both different coloured cheek and lip tints. As I recently used the free Benefit samples with Glamour magazine, I was interested to check these ones out as they are, as far as I can tell, 2True's own, massively cheaper versions of Benefit's Posie Tint and Benetint. I had a pretty close look at the bottles, including a peer inside, and the contents really did look identical to the expensive Benefit versions which I would never pay full price for (they are an eye-watering £24 or so), so I thought I had to give these cheapo versions a try!
So I am reviewing both products here which are:
* 2True Lip and Cheek Tint in Rose
* 2True Lip and Cheek Tint in Blush Pink
~*~*~*~* Rose cheek and lip tint *~*~*~*~
So firstly I will describe the rose version.
The rose version of the product looks very dark in the bottle - dauntingly so at first! The packaging is similar to a bottle of nail varnish - a small cylindrical bottle with a white screwtop lid, with the brush attached. The brush is very skinny, which I thought was odd at first but does actually help with the application of the tint.
Just like the Benefit product, this has a thin, watery consistency - knock the bottle over and you can say goodbye to your cheek tint straight away! It's really unusual to use something with such a thin texture - it really is like dark red water - and it makes you wonder if it's going to work! Using the think brush, I sweep a small amount onto the top of each cheekbone - this will actually drip down your cheeks if you apply too much so do be careful ... and be ready to blend before it runs off down your face! Using a fingertip to gently blend this into the skin, this disappears almost straight way and dries instantly - and at first it is difficult to see if it's really made much difference. However, if you look carefully you can see that this has delivered a slight, healthy flush to the cheeks. This is subtle enough that you can probably get away with another little dab onto each cheek! However do be careful not to overdo it - as it sinks into the skin you can't wipe it off that easily - and bear in mind I do have an olive skintone so this may look much stronger on lighter skin!
My preferred way to use this is alongside the Blush Pink product as I think both complement each other well and give me that touch more colour that I need for my skin. I always apply this first, and the Blush Pink cheek tint second, and that really works well for me.
~*~*~*~* Pink cheek and lip tint *~*~*~*~
So a little more about the pink version.
The bottle itself is an opaque, very bright pink shade with a white screwtop lid and a very slim brush inside, similar to a bottle of nail varnish. The product inside is a scarily bright pink - almost neon - and in fact looks even brighter than the Benefit version which also scared me a little the first time I saw it!
Unlike the dark red cheek and lip tint, this has a much thicker texture, which I certainly prefer to the watery texture of the dark red product, as it is much easier to apply and feels like you're using a real product rather than just some red water!
This has a slight creaminess to it and it doesn't drip off the brush or anything like that! I tend to apply a sweep to each cheek, just under the cheekbone, and then blend the gently into my cheeks using a light circular motion. This gives a quite subtle pink flush to my cheeks which looks quite nice and natural - it definitely isn't too intense a colour at all despite the bright appearance - it blends in really well and leaves cheek looking quite natural. I find that using it alongside the dark red product gives a slight contoured effect and a touch more colour to my cheeks.
Both these products have good staying power, although I would probably reapply if I had put it on for work in the morning and was heading out in the evening as well. I also think this bottle will last ages as you really don't need very much of the product.
~*~*~*~* On the lips? ~*~*~*~*
You can also use both these products as lip tints. However, this is one thing that really doesn't work for me with these products (or Benefit's for that matter) as I find applying these liquids to the lips is quite drying - especially the dark red one. And although the dark red version does give a nice stained effect to the lips, it isn't something I enjoy using so will stick to using it on my cheeks only.
~*~*~*~* All the benefits, at a fraction of the price ... *~*~*~*~
To be completely honest I can't detect any difference at all between these two products and the Benefit products - except that the Benefit product perhaps delivers a slightly stronger hit of colour on the first application. But, bearing in mind that I could buy 10 bottles of this for the price of one Benetint, it's a bit of a no-brainer for me!
Of the two products, I would say I prefer the pink one, partly because I simply prefer the slightly creamy texture. So if you perhaps want to try out just one of these, I would personally recommend the pink version.
~*~*~*~* You'd be mad not to try it! *~*~*~*~
To anyone addicted to Benefit's Benetint or Posie Tint, I would honestly suggest giving this a go. If it doesn't work for you won't be too out of pocket - but if it does you could save yourself a fortune!
For me, I still prefer my No7 cream blusher overall to these two products, as I really prefer the format and texture and it works better for me personally. However, I think for the price these are both really good products that I find very hard to fault. I will have no problem using the bottles I have and will most probably buy more when they run out! For this reason I have to award these five stars - they are an absolute bargain!
Summary: A highly recommended beauty bargain!
