2true is a bargain priced line of cosmetics, available in Superdrug. All of their produts cost £1.99, but there is also a long standing mix and match offer where you can buy 3 products for £5. The cheek tint comes in two shades, one being a rather bright sugary pink, and the other is the one that I have tried. This looks a dark wine red in the bottle but it says that it will leave a rose tinted finish on your cheeks and lips. I was a bit alarmed at the colour at first. I have pale skin and I thought that as a blusher it would look far from natural. As a lip stain though, I thought the colour would be perfect. In fact, it looks quite different when applied to your skin as I will describe below.
The tint is in a liquid form, so it comes in a nail polish style bottle with a similar brush. The lid is the screw on type and I strongly recommend that you tighten it carefully. I failed to do so, and was left with a impossible to shift stain on the inside of a fabric bag. This is my fault entirely, but it is annoying none the less. The brush itself is short and stubby but it is perfectly easy to use. As the tint is runny I did wonder whether the brush would allow it to drip unpleasantly but this doesn't seem to happen. It feels light and soft on the lips, and picks up just enough of the tint to deal with your lips or both cheeks. I decided that it may not be hygenic to use the same brush for both areas of my face so I switched to using a regular lip brush and kept the 2true one for my cheeks. This works fine.
On opening the bottle, the first thing that I noticed was that the tint has a slight scent. This reminds me vaguely of cherries but it is only really noticeable at a close range. I prefer it to a chemical scent anyway. The second thing that struck me was how runny in texture it was. This is probably because I have not used a simliar product before. It does actually make it easy to apply if anything as it glides over your lips or cheeks effortlessly. I tried some on the back of my hand, and the blobs I left there looked lighter in colour than how the tint appears in it's bottle. When I spread them out, the colour mellowed further and finished up leaving my skin with a tint that really could be called rosy. This was a relief and so I felt happy to use it as a blush. I dotted a couple of drops on each cheek but subsequently I have found that it is easier to deal with one cheek at a time. This is because the tint dries quicky and once it has, it is obviously impossible to blend it further. When freshly applied, it blends very easily. Applying it to the lips was also very quick and easy - I just swept the brush once over the top lip, and then over the bttom. This gives a good even colour without further attention.
I have been very happy with the product as a liquid blusher in all but name. My cheeks look naturally flushed, despite my reservations that the colour would be far too dark. I have successfully used the tint both on bare skin and over foundation and it blends easily in both cases. It also lasts very well, as I do not need to re-appy at all throughout the working day, and some added colour is still obvious into the evening. I do think my cheeks feel ever so slightly sticky to the touch, but this is only obvious if I pat them, and I am otherwise unaaware that I am wearing the product.
As for my lips, I like the gentle pink colour, and the subtle sheen of the finish. It is slightly glossy but doesn't look too much like lip gloss. My lips feel slightly sticky, but not enough to irritate me. I have been impressed with how durable the tint is - it hassn't shifted too much if I have a quick drink or snack but a full lunch does remove most of the colour. This means it has the edge on lip glosses but doesn't last as well as some lip sticks. If I haven't been eating and drinking, the full colour is still present after several hours. As it is easy to re-apply, I don't mind having to do this more than once a day.
The only downside for me is the fact that after several days use, my lips began to feel dry. This problem persisted until I ceased using the tint daily. It didn't cause similar problems with my cheeks, which often tend to be dry anyway. Therefore I have used this more as a cheek than lip product. As such, it lasted me about 6 weeks.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THE PRODUCT?
I like the convenience of using one product to target two areas. I felt that if I needed to get ready in a hurry, and used this on my cheeks and lips I was eady to go in flash. Then the lip dryness started, so the tint became more of a simple blusher for me. I liked the colour, and I have since repurchased the tint to use it on my cheeks as I still feel it is excellent value as a single use product. I would recommend it as something that is well worth trying at the price, but if you have sensitive lips or those prone to dryness, it may not suit you for frequent use. I would also suggest caution if you are taking it out with you to touch up during the day as it has the ability to stain fabric if it should leak. A warning to this affect is on the bottle. Other than that, 2true have come up trumps!
Summary: A good value way of trying a cheek and lip tint
