I quite like adding to my makeup collection, and had seen my sister wearing a really nice lipstick when she advised me it was from the cheap and cheerful 2True collection in Superdrug. Not being one to miss out on a super duper bargain, I headed there and was all of a sudden allured by all the other goodies from the 2True brand range in Superdrug for only £1.99! Since my last mascara was ticking on a bit, and had got a bit old, I decided to “splash” out and buy a new one. Settling for this voluptulash mascara seemed quite affordable and it’s actually pretty decent!
It comes in a slim, circular black and metallic tube, which sadly is not already wrapped in plastic, but I fetched one from the back that was unopened. The mascara packaging is fairly basic, and is quite small and compact so fits neatly into my makeup purse. It is shade no.1 (black) but in all honesty I didn't see any other shades available in my particular branch of Superdrug.
The mascara brush itself is pretty basic and frills free – it has a swirly, quite thickly and densely populated brush which has lots of bristles. You can see some distinct space between the lines of bristles, but the mascara is a bit clompy which overshadows this. This isn’t usually the kind of mascara brush I’d opt for, but for the price I had gone for cheap as chips as we can see, so wasn’t too fussy.
The tube naturally has a filter around the rim of the mascara base, so when you pull the wand out it takes off much of the excess mascara making it quite easy to apply. In order to get an even coverage, I do find I have to comb the mascara brush through my eyelashes a fair few times to get the desired look I’d like. I also tend to stroke the mascara brush across my lashes first to actually apply the mascara solution, then comb it through which takes a while to achieve any real look of volume.
It doesn't irritate my eyes which is good, and I am yet to cry with it on, but with the hayfever season about, I have rubbed my eyes a fair bit with this mascara on and it hasn’t smudged so this is a good aspect about it.
On the whole, this mascara isn’t too bad. It only costs £1.99, and it pretty much gets the job done, which is to create the illusion I have thicker lashes than I actually do! It doesn’t really volumise, lenghthen the look or elongate my lashes to give a nice fluttery look I’d like to achieve (without the need for eyelash extensions) but surprisingly it does highlight my lashes no worse than my £10 mascara before has, so for that I still give it a good rating. Would recommend to someone looking for a simple, and high affordable mascara which does the standard job!
'2true' is a 'Superdrug' own make up brand that offers a wide range of cosmetics from primer (now that they have updated their collection) to lipstick in a fantastic array of colours.
I repurchased the '2true instant volume mascara' after my old one ran out from my local 'Superdrug' store for only £1.99 and it has quickly become my go to mascara. I purchased the black one but it is also available in a deep brown. On my first time using this product I was shocked at how amazing it actually was, my first purchase of this mascara was bought on a whim I thought for £1.99 I cant really go wrong.
I love everything about this mascara, after only one application it adds so much depth and volume to your lashes, the colour pay off is amazing and it stays put literally overnight. I like the formula it does not have a strong smell and is not cheaply made given the price. It does not make your lashes look clumpy or stuck together.
The packaging is lovely, it is well designed, sleek and compact and regardless of its small size your get a very lot of product, the mascara is so durable and the formula is so well made that your only need one application on either eye because of this the product lasts a very very long time.
I would defiantly recommend this mascara it makes your lases look amazing, it lasts and for only £1.99 you cant go wrong. This mascara is a beauty essential and I will defiantly be repurchasing it.
This is a mascara from budget beauty brand 2true. The mascara is available in black or extreme black and is described as an "instant volume mascara". The product claims to thicken and build lashes to maximum effect and also be non smudging or clumping.
The packaging consists of a black plastic tube and a black plastic lid. The packaging is probably 3-4 inches in length. On the front it states the product name and on the back there is manufacturer details the fact that there is 7ml of product and also the claims mentioned in the description. On the top of the lid there is also a sticker indicating the shade of the product in my case - black. To open the product you simply twist the lid and this reveals a rather large mascara wand with the bristle arranged in a spiral.
This product is currently available in Superdrug for £1.99.
This isn't really a brilliant mascara to be honest and I only bought it because it was cheap and I'm very much a mascara lover so I always try any new mascaras I spot especially if they are cheap in the hope that I will find a cheaper alternative to my more expensive mascaras that I use daily. On occasions this has worked, I've bought a "chit-chat" mascara from Poundland that at one stage I was using daily and so there are high performing products out there unfortunately this wasn't one of them for me.
The product claims to be anti clumping and whilst there are never any clumps on the mascara wand when removing it from the bottle there are clumps left on the lashes which is a bit disappointing. I also find that the product isn't the right consistency for a mascara it seems to be thicker than most mascaras I use and I don't really like this.
The other claim the mascara makes is that it is non-smuding and I would say it lives up to that, I never experienced any smudging whilst wearing the product and so at least that's something. I also never experienced any irritation.
As an "instant volume" mascara though I don't feel it lives up to its name, my lashes were left a bit clumpy and they looked rather tired instead of plumped up and so I won't be purchasing this product again. In the interest of not wasting though I do tend to use this as a base coat of mascara now and again and then apply a better performing one over the top.
From my experience of wearing this mascara on its own I didn't notice any fading or flaking and didn't feel the need to reapply and so it performs well in terms of staying power.
Not a favourite of mine by any means, too many negatives to weigh out the few positives and so unfortunately it's 2 out of 10.
I actually bought this mascara purely because it was so cheap. I like to save money where I can and one of the things that I tend to cut back on is cosmetics, and this is the cheapest mascara I think I've ever come across. Believe it or not this mascara is only £1.99! Okay, so the tube is a little smaller than an average mascara tube, but you still get a lot for your money and the quality is outstanding. The mascara that I used to buy before I discovered this one costs £7 more and this is just as good quality.
The packaging is very basic - a black tube which is a little smaller than any of my other mascara tubes and it has a rounded shape to it. The lid unscrews and when you pull it out it has the wand and brush attached to it. The tube has pink writing on it which has the 2True branding and product name on it. On the back of the tube theres more pink writing which has the tube size (7ml) and it says that the mascara thickens and builds lashes to maximum effect. It also says that the formula is non smudging & non clumping.
The mascara wand is a lot shorter than an average mascara wand and the lid is quite bulky, but I like this as it makes it easier to hold and grip property. The brush is a good length and it has lots of soft bristles, which are well separated and there's a variety of long and short ones. The formula is light and has a 'wet' feel to it, but it dries on my lashes very quickly and spreads over my lashes without clumping or feeling heavy. The mascara separates my lashes and gives them instant definition (I have black lashes but this makes them more a intense shade of black which I love) and instant length.
The mascara doesn't make my lashes look fluttery or anything, but noticeably longer, which really opens my eyes up and makes them look well defined and bigger. I find it a little difficult using the mascara in my bottom lashes as the brush is slightly bulky so I tend to make a bit of a mess when using it on the bottom ones. The mascara as well as making my lashes look longer also makes them look a little thicker and I am always happy with the results. The difference in my lashes isn't outstanding, but they look longer & fuller and I think that they also look very natural while still looking noticeable longer and thicker, and I wear this mascara on a daily basis. It would not be suitable for nights out when I want big, false looking lashes but for daily wear it is fine.
The only downside is that i find it a bit stubborn when it comes to removing it. Also, the tube dries out within a few days if I don't screw the lid back on properly so I alway double check! I'd definitely recommend this mascara though and I think it's brilliant value and I can't fault it.
I got this mascara in black, as part of their three for £5 offer. I think they are around £2 each, which isn't bad, for an everyday mascara, but that's all I'd use it for really.
The mascara seems quite clumpy when it comes out of the tube, and although application is quite smooth, it does clump the lashes together quite a bit. It's fine if you've got a lash comb handy, but not everyone likes to use them, they can be quite fiddly. Also it wasn't really volumising, it just seemed like a pretty bog-standard mascara to me.
Another problem with the mascara was even though I used a cleansing lotion and cleansing wipes, it just didn't seem to go away! I used this mascara three days ago, and even though I'd washed my face and wiped the lashes, it still seemed to be there the following night, although I hadn't used any more makeup.
So, if you've got the time to try and de-clump the lashes, and you're willing to have panda eyes the next day, then it's worth the cheap price
I came across the 2True range of cosmetics around a year ago in my local Superdrug and I have been really pleased with the quality of the products. One of the items that I particullary like is the instant volume mascara and I have re-purchased this several times as it's such a bargain!
The mascara is priced at just £1.99 which I think is amazing value for money and due to how cheap it is I wasn't expecting it to be much good but I am glad I tried it because it is honestly just as good as a majority of my other, more expensive mascaras. The mascara is available from Superdrug either in store or via their website and it is on a long term mix and match offer, which is three 2True products for £4.99
This mascara is only available in black and extreme black, which might be a problem for fair haired people but as I have dark lashes this isn't a problem for me and I like very dark mascara. There is a lengthening mascara available in the 2True range, however I am reviewing the instant volume mascara, which is described as being specially developed to thicken, separate and build lashes to maximum effect with no clumping and smudging.
It is also stated that the mascara is long lasting - a lot of claims for such a cheap product! The mascara comes in a glossy black tube which is a little smaller than my other mascaras but for the price I think that the size is generous and a tube will easily last me for around 2 months with daily use. The tube has a curved design which I like and it is really compact - the ideal size for putting in my handbag's inside compartment as all of my other mascaras are too long to fit in it properlyy. There is bright pink writing on the side of the tube and this simply has the brand and product name.
The lid of the tube screws off and the applicator brush is attatched to the wand - just like any other mascara. The brush has quite stubby bristles but they are soft and I find that they apply the mascara onto my lashes evenly and accurately; I've had no issues with the mascara clumping up. I do find however that mascara gathers on the end of the brush when it's not been opened for a few days but a quick wipe with a tissue soon sorts this.
I use the mascara on my top and bottom lashes and it definitely adds length to my lashes and makes them look noticeably longer - but not like spiders legs like a lot of other cheap mascaras can do! It spreads my lashes out but I can't say that it makes a noticeable difference to the thickness at all, unfortunetly. This is the perfect mascara for everyday wear as it makes a subtle difference and really opens the eyes up.
The mascara isn't waterproof and it has run on the occassions that I've been caught in the rain while wearing it. It lasts for a good six hours but after eight(ish) hours it starts to fade and smudge - not a good look, but not a huge issue as it is easy to neaten up with a wet wipe or re-apply. It is easy to remove the mascara with a wet wipe or a damp cotton pad and it is not stubborn or hard to get off. I overall reccommend this mascara as it is cheap, long lasting and gives my lashes extra length.
I was fairly disappointed after testing out this product even though it was very cheap, because other products I had bought from this brand I had liked.
The mascara didn't just have no effect on my appearance, it actually made my lashes look worse!
Instead of lengthening my eyelashes, the products texture and gloopyness weighed them down so much that they appeared even shorter than they are naturally.
The product also coated my lashes so thickly that my eyelashes ended up sticking together, which made me look really cheap and trashy! I would never go out wearing this product, and took it off straight away.
I kept it for a while intending to try it out another day, as we all know we can have off days when applying mascara, however after the short period of time for which I had kept it (two months or so) it had already dried out and flaked everywhere, even though the lid was screwed on properly.
I hate this product and would definitely not recommend it.
I wanted to buy my fourteen year old a mascara as she keeps borrowing mine all the time. I went to Superdrug to see what they had on offer that was not too expensive, seeing how quickly she uses them up, and saw one of those swirly racks that you can spin round with a sign on it saying £1.99 each or 3 for £5.
The range of make up was called 2True and they had a good selection of different kinds of make up. I needed an eyebrow pencil for myself and mascara for daughter but wasn't sure what else to get to make it up to three items so ended up getting her two mascaras, one is a colour, like a dark purpley grey and the other is this one, the Instant Volume mascara.
The packaging is normal mascara shaped tube with the lid being matt black and the bottle part of it being a glossy black and the wording on it is in a nice metallic pink colour so very girly.
I tried out the mascara when I got home to see what it was like, the lid screws off easily and the brush on the wand is nice and big and fat so easy to use on your lashes. There was enough on the brush to do the top and bottom of one eye before dipping it back in to do the other eye.
I could see immediately that my lashes looked thicker than they were and darker and also longer. They looked like separate lashes, not just all stuck together. The mascara didn't take long to dry after applying either which is one of the things I find with mascara, that no matter how hard I try, I always end up blinking and then get a black mark on my eye lid or under my eye that I have to remove with a cotton bud, but this time I was lucky and no mishaps.
The mascara stayed on quite well seeing as it was not expensive. My eyes water a lot during the day especially when I am out in the sun but I didn't find my eyes stinging at all and if I was careful wiping my eyes I didn't get black marks on my finger or tissue what ever I was using at the time. I did find though that if my eyes got tired and I forgot I had the mascara on and rubbed my eye harder then it left a black mark round my eye underneath. Seeing that I don't wear mascara every day it is easy for me to forget completely that I have it on, so it was lucky that I was already back home in doors before I rubbed my eye or I would have been walking round like a panda.
My daughter has been using this mascara now for a week and said she is very pleased with it. She said it lasts all day at school looking nice unless she does the same and rubs her eye, then she has to hope she either notices it herself or one of her mates tells her. But normally she said it is really good and wants me to buy it again when it runs out.
I would recommend this mascara for anyone who wants something with a good price to it, especially for those with teenagers like me.
