Beauty UK Glam Nails Nail Varnish
by brittle1906 Review of Beauty UK Glam Nails Nail polish Beauty UK is a range of affordably priced cosmetics. As the name implies, Beauty UK is a UK based company which was formed in 2005. The company is against animal testing and other than their eye pencils which contain lanolin, most of Beauty UK's cosmetics are classified as ... vegetarian and vegan friendly. The brand tends to veer towards fashion shades and aims to provide consumers with trendy products at sensible prices. The range includes products for eyes, face, lips and nails. ==Glam Nails Nail Polish== I used to wear nail polish regularly but for various reasons stopped painting my nails; however I have recently started using it again and I am enjoying discovering all the nail polish ranges available. Earlier this summer I bought myself a pair of brightly coloured strappy sandals. I decided that painted toenails would look good with these and as the predominant colour of my sandals is red, I wanted a red nail polish to wear with them. I don't usually go for red nail polishes, so I didn't want to spend too much as I knew it wasn't a shade I'd be using that regularly. All too of, nail polishes left unused once opened, can become gloopy and unusable. I found the Beauty UK range in Superdrug and as the nail polishes were presented in a small amount (10ml) and reasonably priced at £1.99 each, decided to try them. I chose shade no *8, a bright pillar-box red. The bottle is small, but it has a long stalk like, screw topped lid which of course acts as the handle for the brush. The actual brush is on the small side for my taste, but it is perfectly useable and functional. I have found that the red polish does need two coats to give a good depth of colour, although after having used the red I did go back and purchase a lighter colour which seems to cover adequately with only one coat. The nail polish lasts remarkably well for a cheap and cheerful range, I can generally get a week's use out of it on my toe nails although for finger nails this is considerably less, probably due to the fact that I never wear rubber gloves for household chores, so my nail varnish gets a bit battered and chipped after a few days. The finish of the two shades of Glam Nails polish that I have tried is very good, glossy without being over the top and the coverage is satisfactory in my opinion. Removal is easy enough, I tend to use nail polish remover pads and have had no issues with removal at all and no staining of my nails either. ==My Thoughts and Conclusion== All in all, I have been very pleased with the nail polish. It comes in an excellent range of colours, at least 25, ranging from barely there pastels to more dramatic and quirky dark blues and purples. For £1.99 each these are definitely worth trying in my opinion, as they are good quality and won't break the bank. I think that they are ideal if you want a particular shade for a special occasion or one off use and would make good stocking filler at Christmas for a teenager too. I would recommend this range of Nail Polish to others and am awarding it a 4*rating, dropping 1 * as the brush could be a little better. Thank you for reading. İbrittle1906 September 2012 N.B. Beauty UK Eye Shadow Palettes
by Hannahisme I am a complete sucker when it comes to cheap makeup. I have 2 rules though - 1. it has to be good quality, and 2. it can't be tested on animals. I was absolutley thrilled when I found Beauty UK eye shadow products because they ticked all the boxes for me! FIRST THOUGHTS My first thoughts on the Beauty UK display when I ... entered Superdrug was that i was a bit put off by it. The stand itself looks very cheaply made and quite unprofessional. It looked like the shop had just stuck it on a random black shelf in the corner of the shop. Of course I walked straight past it when I went makeup shopping, just because I didn't think it was going to be very good. It looked out of place next to the likes of Barry M and Maybelline and their glowing "look at me" displays. But I was very curious as to what this make up was like, so like the little research nerd I am, I came home and searched the internet to find out what this makeup was like! I was quite surprised to find that there had been numerous reviews stating that it was an amazing brand and that they were excited to have found such a good quality and cheap makeup brand! So with this, I jumped on the next bus and bought some of their eye shadow pallets. PRICE The price of the eye shadow pallets are £3.99. I purchased mine at my local Superdrug. However you can purchase them on the official Beauty UK website. COLORS There are 6 different eye shadow pallets, containing 10 colors. Which are : 1. Pastels - This has a dark brown, light brown, cream, white, light purple, light blue, light pink, light grey, light green and a dark green eye shadow 2. Soho Bright - This has a hot pink, dark purple, bright orange, medium purple, medium green, bright yellow, dark turquoise, light turquoise, bright blue and a light blue eye shadow 3 Glitz - This has a shimmery black, grey-ish white, shimmery brown, shimmery light brown, shimmery green, shimmery earthy green, shimmery hot pink, shimmery light pink, shimmery blue and a shimmery light blue eye shadow 4. Earth Child - This has a matte black, white, dark grey, light grey, medium brown, light brown, dark-ish orange, cream, dark earth green and a light earth green eye shadow 5. Twilight - This has a white, purple blue, pale blue, medium blue, grey blue, midnight blue, light blue, medium purple blue, matte dark blue and a dark grey eye shadow 6. Day and Night - This has a White, black, cream, dark brown, lemon, burgundy, bright blue, dark purple, light pink and a hot pink eye shadow I have number 2 and 6. I love both of these pallets. The number 2 pallet is great for costume makeup or if you enjoy wearing bright makeup. The number 6 pallet is perfect for creating an everyday look! APPLICATION The application is very easy. Each pallet comes with a double sided eye shadow brush - however I suggest using a normal eye shadow brush as it is a lot easier and has a better coverage! I found that the eye shadows look a lot better if you use a primer beforehand. It makes the colors pop twice as much as they would without the primer. I found that one coat wasn't enough and that I had to build up the color. This was no problem as I like to build up eye shadow any way because it lasts longer. COVERAGE It stays on really well. I found that there can be some fall outs but other than that the color lasted at least 5 hours ! Without primer it lasted about 3-4 hours so I definitely suggest using the primer! I would say it is waterproof , however I haven't had the chance to fully test to see if it is waterproof ( as in i haven't stood out in the rain for ages to see if it washes off haha) OVERALL Overall I would recommend this product because it is very good quality, cheap, not tested on animals and looks amazing! Beauty UK Glam Nails Nail Varnish
by bamamo As far as beauty products go, I'm always on the hunt for cheap brands which deliver, as after all things like nail varnish are rather frivolous and I don't like spending the earth for them. I've got quite into doing my nails lately, and although I enjoy it, I have been finding it frustrating that none of the varnishes I have seem to want ... to last more than a couple of days before I have to completely redo them due to the amount of chipping. Beauty UK is a brand of budget, yet in my experience pretty darn good, makeup products, which can be found in Superdrug, Select and Internacionale stores, as well as via their website. I was previously blown away by their eyeshadow palette, which cost about £3 for 10 great quality shadows, so I was expecting their nail varnish to be decent. I was wrong. It's actually better than decent. It's fantastic! I picked up a set of the varnishes, which cost just £4.99 for six mini bottles, which are actually 8ml and not that mini at all. I mean, who actually finishes up their nail varnishes before their untimely demise? I think these sets could well be limited edition, they only had a two left in the Superdrug store I visited and all three variations are sold out online. I'm not surprised! That said, there is still a great range of colours to be found in the regular bottles, which are priced at just £1.99. Their website doesn't tell me what size those are, but it does say they are mini so I expect they will be between 8-10ml. The brand also offer "salon professional" varnishes in a bigger bottle (14ml if I can read correctly from the picture on the website!) for £2.49. That is still really cheap and I will probably repurchase any favourite shades in that format just to check out if there is really any difference formula-wise. The colour range does include new shades being added all the time to keep up with trends, and they have even followed suit with bigger brands and introduced a shatter polish, the difference being theirs costs just £2.99 and, at the moment, comes in three shades. I will definitely be buying one of these, as I like the idea of the effect but found Barry M's to be a bit goopy and difficult to work with. (Boots 17 do a good one). Application of the varnish is very easy. They are fairly thin, which I actually like as I find two thin layers chips much less than one (or two) layers of a thicker polish which is prone to peeling. My set came with pale, summery shades, and all of the ones I've tried do need the two layers, however that is sufficient. They paint on smoothly with brush which is certainly not mini despite bottle size, and the thinness of the formula means that it's less prone to lumpy patches, which I've encountered with thicker brands which feel almost half dry as they are painted on. Drying time is very good. I am usually overly cautious due to the sheer amount of times I have ruined my nails, however by the time I've finished all my nails with the first coat I'm ready to start the second, and I usually sit for about five minutes to check that it is definitely dry. I have not yet used these varnishes with a base or top coat, as I like to try them out alone first, and in all honesty I probably won't bother as I've been impressed anyway. I still managed two days without any chips (even those tiny ones at the bottom of the nail) and survived a bath with only minimal peeling. The bath is usually the end of it for me, my varnishes tend to magically peel away as soon as I hit the water. As I like to be cleanly, it's definitely nice to find a polish that allows me to bathe often without retouching my nails!! I did a small touch-up job at the end of day three (which is easy to due again due to the thin texture, so you don't end up with hugely lumpy or uneven nails) and managed about five days before I decided to remove it. I could have probably prolonged that with another touch-up but I was keen to try a new shade by then! Removal itself is pretty easy in that it doesn't stain but does take more work than some other polishes. Nothing major or troublesome though. I can't recommend these polishes highly enough and am really looking forward to trying them all out over the summer! They are easily better than higher end varnishes I've used such as Nails Inc, and at such a low price I'd suggest at least giving them a try. Read the complete review |
